Robert Downey Junior definitely deserved the Oscar, for Best Supporting Artist for Oppenheimer. Johnny Depp is still one of Robbo's treasured friends, and I would imagine that Johnny did not want to steal Robo's thunder on his special night. Everyone makes mistakes and that could be why there was a mix up with the photos, and obviously he was thinking of the happy moments that they had shared together in their younger days. Looking forward to the day when I can can see Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Junior working once again together.

Except for one problem, Johnny Depp said he’s done with Hollywood. So unless it is something that is not produced anywhere in around near under entry whatever, it ain’t happening. Tony Stark was given more depth because it was acted by a very competent actor. RDJ was always great. Go watch Less Than Zero and be horrified. Writers just didnt know how to write a character who can be a neutron bomb of confidence yet be self deprecating until RDJ became Stark. Most MCU characters are not well written or overly well acted but Stark was.
