It's really wild how Tik Tok and, to a lesser extent KZbin, have enabled mass bullying of people who can't fully understand what they are doing or why they are being bullied. I used to work with adults with intellectual disabilities and we were super careful to make sure they weren't recorded or posted. I knew this kid, in the early years of highschool, he was mentally behind, had the persona of a ten year old boy, brought toys to school, would wear his pants below the edge of his waist, letting you see much more then you wanted to, was extremely foul mouthed and was just lost, he never seemed to quite understand what he was saying. But, it wasn't necessarily his fault, in a better world he would have been just as capable as the rest of us, the problems caused by these afflictions and disabilities weren't started by their victims, nor continued by it, they have no voice nor choice in if they are born that way. This doesn't mean they can do whatever they want, but it should mean we hear them with a sense of understanding to their scenario.

Okay, listen. I am not defending this behavior in ANY way, shape, or form. I actually lived in the same small town in Iowa than Johnny Elbows used to live in. I was a lifeguard at the local pool that Johnny would frequent. Johnny definitely has a mental handicap of some sort. He was a nice person and does not always quite understand what he was saying. I think being on camera/internet is the worst thing that could happen because it encourages behavior that isn't always in character. The people posting these videos know they are preying on a disabled person and they should feel ashamed of themselves for using Johnny for clout. Again, what Johnny said in the live video about an underaged girl is unacceptable, and he should know better, however I won't sit here and act like him being pushed into internet micro celebrity status is also acceptable.

Thank you for having an alright take on lolcows. It very important. I have almost become one myself because of targeting. My autism genuinely makes it hard to discern trickery sometimes, and people have used that against me HARD just for laughs and it has permanently messed up some of my ability/understanding to make friends. Sometimes people need to look past the laughs and realize there are cases of genuine exploitation and targeting of mentally handicapped people. Real human lives, real people like you or I. I have seen countless people encourage inappropriate or unfitting behavior from disabled peers for their personal entertainment irl, and that exploitation gets so much more extreme when opened to the internet. I use to work in disbility support, Obviously I don't know jhonnys condition and have only really seen him online. However from what I have seen, some people with mental handicaps have issues with those boundaries. It can sometimes he a result of trauma in the past or they just generally don't understand that that sort of thing isn't okay. Does that excuse the action? definitely not, people should be held accountable for their actions. However is someone is special needs and doesn't understand that that isn't something you should do. It falls on the careers and people in his life to teach him those things are not okay. It saddens me that the person who claimed to be his friend who appears to be mentally capable to understand that its bad doesnt use that as a moment to explain to him why that's not okay and then bring it up with jhonnys care team as how they can help discourage these behaviours as well as find out where these behaviours have come from. I've always had that mindset... however what if some people with disabilities aren't taught essentially right from wrong? Or as if they were around "yes men" their entire lives. Yeah folks like Johnny need to be held accountable for the creepy things they do and say but it has to be handled in a way they can understand which isn’t going to be the same as someone who is not cognitively disabled. That being said the guy filming him presumably had instructed Johnny to go there to the park where this incident happened and I doubt the cameraman had not seen or heard him say stuff like that before it just hadn’t been caught on live so he had deniability until that point. Growing up I had a substitute teacher who wasn’t unlike Johnny elbows and every student begged the school not to let him teach us because he used his disability as an excuse to get away with staring at the girls and trying to look down their shirts, girls formed an army to borrow hoodies when he would teach even if the girls were enemies with each other they came Together to protect each other from this creepy disabled teacher and the school administrators refused to stop allowing that man around us. Hold them accountable in a way that they can understand, don’t exploit them, and don’t have known creeps around kids.

​@@Julian-4 Yeah is wrong, but mental disabilities affect every cognitive function you have, including speaking and rationality. I've been around a lot of handicapped people in my school, because they wanted to integrate them with mentally healthy people, bad move I already know. The entire time there were many people that did things said things, grabbed people, said horrible things etc, but they aren't physically and mentally incapable of doing/understanding their actions of words. One gentleman was wheelchair bound and had mental and limb deformities. He would scream, smack people with his arms, shove food off the table at lunch etc. he was 19-20 I believe but had the mental processing power of a 2 year old. It isn't his fault and he isn't a bad person.
