There is so much soul and feeling in your lyrics and music. And your voice seems surreal or from another time. Even to an old lady like me, your gifts are rare and unique. It is as if you have an old soul that is giving us an echo from centuries past. I discovered you when I watched Detectorists; your music put such magic into the show.

Your music really helped me through the most depressing time of my life. I was away from my family and friends and everything I had ever known. Everyday was a struggle and your Music helped me thought it. Thank You!

The cadence, the phrasing, and instrumentation ~ it all takes me back to the days I first listened to Scott Walker, to Kate/Anna McGarrigle and to Leonard Cohen ~ sublime, agonizing but enjoyable

As my wife says "Award for singer whose singing voice is most different from their talking voice goes to Johnny Flynn". I love singing along to your songs. This and Gypsy Hymn are my two favourite.

I take it that she hasn't heard Adele then?! Not that I'd dream of a comparison between the two, but if you were looking for a contrast between sing and speaking voice...
@jeremyhunter23197 жыл бұрын
Yes, we both have. What's your point other than being an ass?
@ryanstothert28897 жыл бұрын
Ooookay, that seems a bit unnecessarily combative. My point was to draw attention to another singer whose singing voice is dramatically different to their speaking voice. If I was being an ass then you have my apologies. I'm kinda failing to see how that was so though...
@jeremyhunter23197 жыл бұрын
Her accent is lost but her actual voice is very similar, Johnny Flynn actually has a very different voice. "I take it that she hasn't heard Adele then?!" was unnecessary and a little patronizing.
@ryanstothert28897 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right - her voice is, other than accent, practically identical when singing and speaking, in complete contrast to JF's which is utterly different. I was being an unnecessary, patronizing ass. I hope you can find it within yourself to forgive me.

Any guesses as to the song that he refers to at 1:26? Something about a murderer brood a fleet of flocking birds??
@jeremyhunter23198 жыл бұрын
"A murder, a brood, a fleet, a flock of birds" :) No idea.
@tabbyclawproductions79436 жыл бұрын
I think those are all names for groups of birds. I know a murder is a group of crows, and I think a flock is a more general term for a bird group. And a fleet can refer to a group of fighter jets, so it probably applies to birds. So I assume brood must have a similar meaning.

He has a song called Murmuration which is a name for a flock of starlings, so it’s possible he’s referring to that.
