I am 36. I have had my own stable home for three years now. I discovered heroin and crack around 15 . I spent my mid twenties on in the streets and abandoned houses etc. I would not have hung on for almost ten years out there and another ten of hard drugging with out folk punk. Johnny hobo made me feel not alone in my freezing cold abandoned houses and tents and I felt my sanity slipping but it didn't ever lose myself and I managed to defeat death and adversity time and again. Still get in the mood to listen in every few months again I saw pat the bunny play in some old warehouses people made the first floor which was just a big open room into a makeshift bunk room, punk house/hobo drop in situation and had pat play. I don't think they were local and I know that someone with access to the building was posting ads and illegally collecting money to let people stay there and build their own spot and I don't know how long it worked out I was going to consider it but my ex husband was from the area and caught up with the Mafia and told me how the mobsters offed people in the elevator right there... n these fuckers are having punk rock shows up in t oblivious. I ran with some freight train riders one summer, such amazing stories. I was so close to leaving and with no them. I've been to harmony parking lot. I've lived out just about every sing lyric literally. These songs are so fucking real . The soundtrack to my life.

It’s funny but misery loves company . Except when ones misery isn’t shared and understood . Than in the end when the one who knew truth and stayed to save his friend from the drugs his friend got hooked on . Became hooked on to in the end after helping his friend get clean. But the one who gets clean and was supposed to know he had a debt to pay , saving the one who put his own life in danger to save his life . But doesn’t instead he selfishly is jealous of everyone around because of his own insecurities. His inner self now out in open for all to see, isn’t a surprise to anyone . except his friend left behind to suffer alone from the one he betrayed . I haven’t felt anything except pain and misery my entire life . Always from the hands of others . Who I’ve allowed close enough to hurt what had been destroyed by everyone else prior . Blind from beatings and kicks to the teeth . Nothing more to hurt or take away . I’ve lost my life already just to stupid to die . Why has God betrayed me like everyone else . Because of my escapement from reality I suffer in which he has created ? I don’t want to admit that evil can control my life. Because it’s always been something I’ve tried to escape and hate. So wouldn’t God have the ability to finally protect the one who needs help after a life of hurt and betrayal for nothing gained and everything lost? Basically if love is powerful why is it that everyone I love is filled with hate towards me ? I still hold onto believing in Gods words and apply when and where I can . But nothing felt better about it . And here I tell what makes me feel connected to this music and this comment section . It’s a shared understanding of misery I feel comfortable enough to give my side of life’s journey to complete strangers who hopefully will be more of a friend than anyone else has . And it’s not help I am looking for ? It’s only a few words of kindness and shared feelings of misery which would support how hard life can be to navigate. Won’t matter anyways because I never look back at anything I post to protect myself from anymore hurt . Have nothing more to say except thanks for letting me vent . Treat people around you like you want to be treated .

My 2 best friends, the type of friend that fights for you even when you're wrong, the type of friends of which I was so undeserving. I don't believe we're given the opportunity to find these kindred souls once in a lifetime if we're gd lucky and I got 2 but not fir long enough. I empathize deeply with what you must be feeling but thank God & pat the bunny for giving us these little gifts of songs which us like minded folk can gather around and let others know that hey, we're with you. I think of my 2 buddies every. single. day. I tear up every. single. day. at the overwhelming feelings of sorrow & emptiness at the permanence of their being fucking gone. I have shut myself off from most of everyone & everything for the last 6 years, long fucking time, to come to some point, some achievement, some award for being sad or something that then I can move on from and gain some semblance of the human I once was and the passion and vitriol and righteous anger, idealism and the love I had for hanging with comrades. Just being a fucking person again. So yeah that kinda took turn. Sorry. I just know the shitiness of loss and I care.

This quote from Picture of Dorian Gray comes to mind listening to Pat's early stuff... "“The only artists I have ever known who are personally delightful are bad artists. Good artists exist simply in what they make, and consequently are perfectly uninteresting in what they are. A great poet, a really great poet, is the most unpoetical of all creatures. But inferior poets are absolutely fascinating. The worse their rhymes are, the more picturesque they look. The mere fact of having published a book of second-rate sonnets makes a man quite irresistible. He lives the poetry that he cannot write. The others write the poetry that they dare not realize.” ~Oscar Wild

I love watching the evolution of Pat's music. This album, while amazing, is such a hopeless and hateful and violent album. Over the course of his music, this band, Wingnut Dishwasher Union, and Ramshackle Glory, you can see his views change. You can see how he moves away from a paradigm centered around drugs and hate and escapism to sobriety, and compassion, and activism. It makes the Live the Dream album so much more powerful.
