He's gone to be a postman... Dying laughing. Johnny is a great storyteller.

I think their dad or uncle got them the gig. Shaun has likely always been virtually unemployable 😂

Mark Day is a fucking good guitarist. So much of his playing is a major part of the classic Mondays's songs. From what I could work out, he was the most normal out of the lot. Shaun said in his book he had to persuade him in the first place to join the band full time and not become a postman! Apparently he didn't think it offered job security!

I can't imagine ever turning down 2 months in Barbados with the Mondays - it would be the craziest 2 months of your life - imagine the stories

that's because Marr's a soft lad

@@mikemccaine4229 Apparently Marr was drunk and coked out of his mind during the last Smiths tour. But by this point he was a grown up and had left his party days behind him.

Both bands mean a lot to me but good old johnny isn't a Monday, he's far more a sensitive intricate musician! The Mondays were organised chaos and it makes this story funny tho at johnnys expense. Great story and it shows even at star level you can find yourself in a fixed (painful) smile moment when you don't wish to offend! I love the Mondays with a passion and this story only makes it more so.

If course if he'd laid down guitar on just one Mondays record, we all must admit that'd be a real piece of history... 😎

So there’s a parallel universe, not far from our own, where there’s a tomtom club produced happy Mondays album featuring Johnny Marr

Everyone's naturally got a sense of humor. Just a matter if one's social conditioning has a stick too far up your ass to see anything funny. Think how few great comedians are posh, no matter where they're from...

@@sirfizz6518 That's basically most comedy these days, noticing banal everyday shite in a posh accent.

Given the carnage that ensued in Barbados I'd say you made the right decision. I remember reading the reports in NME as they were recording the album, it was a messy affair.

I didn't think that Mr. Marr could say anything that would make him go down in my estimation. Then he says he didn't want to be in The Mondays? How magnificent would that have been? Nevermind though. Being a parent myself, I can forgive him. Great story, told well.
@thevoid993 жыл бұрын
he probably saved himself from absolute hell considering what happened in barbados where the band found crack cocaine there and things went to shit.
@sirfizz6518 Жыл бұрын
Wasn't he always a little more of a reserved introverted type, not much of a party animal? And especially at this point, he had the need for stability. Sure he missed on some memorable experience, but he also missed on all the headache to boot...

@@sirfizz6518 Yeah, and he'd just started Electronic with Bernard at this time. And was still getting some Smiths stuff in the magazines although the magazines had finally started behaving around this time and went low on the Smiths stuff.

Noel G and Johnny. Which was an egg man first? Very similar in look and yarn spilling style. Good friends too I think. Johnny lent Noel his first decent guitar.
