Not just wealth really but after being a professional guitarist as long as Marr has, you just kind of end up with a shit ton of guitars. People give them to you hoping you will play it on stage or as part of signing bonuses on contracts and such. Some get rolled into payment for tours/gigs and some are ones you actually purchased yourself. Mind you, I am not one of these guys but I have seen it.

It amazes me, as an American, how guys like Marr, and Noel especially, have true working class pedigrees, can be from dingy, dark regions like the north of England, and yet their quips and anecdotes are peppered with highly literate and educated thought and expression. I dont have the ear to pick out the differences in accents that may distinguish the british working class from the masses, as I am told you can, but you certainly cant tell by the content of their words. England has got to have a fine public education system. I spent countless nights when I couldnot sleep whiling away the hours listening to any interview on Noel I can get my hands on. He described Morrissey as "dour",,,cracks me up
@LeGrandeOrange8 жыл бұрын
Regardless of their origins, they're fucking brilliant guys! It's not their education so much as their intellect.
@Noisehead1018 жыл бұрын
To be fair, for every working class guy who can speak well, there's about 20 who can barely string a sentence together, especially these days within young people. At that's not be being high and mighty or looking down on anybody, i come from one of the statistically the worst council estate in statistically the worst place in the UK ha, far worse than where they did in fact. A lot of young people now from these places don't value educating themselves, they see it as a badge of honour to be "rough" and working class, when in fact a lot of them are not even working class, because they can't even be bothered to be that, instead many have a chip on their shoulder. Anyway, our public education system is not that great, probably no better or worse than most "developed" countries. It's just that you get a few guys who want something more out of life, and they're the kind of guys that you know. But as i say, there's plenty that are the total opposite of what you're talking about too. Same as everywhere really.

Libraries. Really, you can (could) come from a working class shithole in the north of England in the 70s and 80s, and not have a qualification to your name, but just because your dad shovels shit doesn't mean he's thick or you are duty-bound to be thick in order to represent your class.

1:46 If you're wondering what "a fortune" means here, here's a price guide reverb.com/price-guide/guide/798-gibson-les-paul-standard-1960-burst . $125,000-over $200,000 American, and that's for guitars without a Who and Smiths connection.

They obviously weren't worth that much in 1994 though

I think Noel might still have it. About a year after the guitar was broken, Oasis appeared on Later with Jools Holland, and Noel was playing a guitar that looked a lot like the one Marr is talking about here, that was in the "Live Forever" video etc. It's also in a photo on the inside of (What's the Story) Morning Glory. It's possible Noel had it fixed and still has it, but wasn't really able to use it much after that.

Saying Noel Gallagher is a shit guitarist is like saying Bob Dylan is a shit singer.. It's just a nothing statement.

Well that's racist and irrelevant. Well done! Nice Trolling

Who has talent in your opinion?

+spaceorbison Noel being able to write classics in half hour is not talentless. You on the other hand are. Twat.

Yeah but if my little brother was getting kicked in, I'd hit the attacker with the nearest thing possible.

That's the funny thing with family. The only person you'd want to hit with a guitar more than your brother is someone attacking your brother :-)

When that little brother has THE voice that will make you own unlimiyed amounts of guitars in the future, I bet you would consider it.

Great story !! It does, rather highlight the difference between Johnny and Noel - personality-wise.

Great video but the comment spoiled it a bit. Would be better if you cut the bit after the ... since it takes him a while to get to it. The fans are gonna watch it anyway :)
