I remember listening to this live nearly 40 years ago; I recorded it on a portable mono radio cassette recorder but the tape was worn and the sound was poor. Before the interview started Richard Skinner played ‘Get Off The Phone’ from the remixed LAMF album and after ‘Chinese Rocks’ Andy Batten-Foster mentioned watching Thunders having to dodge beer glasses thrown at him at a Heartbreakers gig circa 1977 or 1978. Great to hear it in FM quality.

Great interview, and then the heartbreakers went on to perform on of my favorite performances and Johnny would later be back in the studio for que sera another favorite of mine with a collaboration of more great musicians. Constant touring with Hanoi too Johnny’s 80s era was a good one if we don’t Involve the drugs

this was a radio interview to promote The Heartbreakers reunion gig at The Lyceum in London, I think Jayne County was the 'special guest" on the bill..Jungle Records had just released the remixed "LAMF" album..John was very polite toward McLaren by the way, at least in this interview

He sounds good here, it's such a pity he was fucked up for the Lyceum show the next day. Walter had to carry that show, unfortunately.

Not since the early Dolls era have I heard Johnny in such a positive, lucid tone!!!!!!! He sounds magnificent here!!!!!!! I've always loved how he just used the term Rock n Roll band here, instead of Punk Rock!!!!!!! Guys like Johnny, & a lot of others from that period, even Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols never considered themselves anything but loud Rock n Rollers!!!!!!! I still love the term Punk Rock & yeah I agree it did become kind of necessary as did the term Alternative Rock in the early 90's!!! The term really was founded upon necessity, because Rock n Roll ended up just being too broad of a term!!!!!!! I didn't want to listen to a station then, that was a rock station, but playing Styx, I wanted to listen to an "Alternative" rock station that was playing Rancid!!!!!!!

Punk is the extension of rock'n'roll in my view, I was there in 77. Rock music has nothing to do with rock'n'roll in my view.

Amazing how close the guitars sound between Steve Jones and Johnny. I love both sounds, but I must confess I love the Sex Pistols songs more.
