Back in the old MySpace days I emailed Walter Lure a few times and he replied..he told me a story about them doing a TV show up in Manchester (he think?) how he died his hair last minute with food colouring and the stuff started running. He lit a cigarette and his hair went up in flames. This is the show he was talking about. But you don't really see it properly. He's just fanning out what's just burnt. I then read his autobiography and he mentioned the story again. I didn't get it why Billy Rath wasn't up there with them. He can be seen sitting watching the interview instead. In Waldo's book Billy was a dimwit. Maybe that's why they contemplated booting him out at one point and get Nils Stevenson in instead. Billy usually looked shy or paranoid on stage. I didn't realise that he was mainly a speedfreak than a smack head. I heard radio interview Billy gave and he sounded like an alright guy. After the Pistols broke up Sid Vicious thought he was gonna replace Billy in the Heartbreakers. Sid wasn't even asked to contribute to Johnny Thunders' So Alone album. I wonder why.?

Nice to see John here as the cocksure New Yorker he once was. I like the interviewer...for a change no sycophant bullshit. Even John found the "lesbian" bit funny. That sadly would change radically during the late 80's, when a mention like that would have him totally defensive and insecure. That Walter Lure had the charismatic presence of a broomstick...just the right bloke John would tolerate next to him on stage, so his star would shine even brighter.

he was not gay, it was just his style. keep in mind he was both a devout Catholic and beat himself up for his sins enough already. i recall reading that he was a master shoplifter at the women's clothing section during the Dolls days as well but if you're doubting a rock star's sexuality over their choice of clothing, then pretty much all of them are gay. back in 74, Stephen Stills, whom i have to admit i admire despite his idiocy, called _Bowie_ himself a fag over the crossdressing and said hed never share a hotel room with the NY dolls. it's 2019 now, man, chill out.
