Back in 1987 Johnny had stopped by a club called Finkys in Daytona beach ( later called the Baja club and I think it’s a gentleman’s club now) ,.. I was working there as a bouncer and got the chance to meet him , I briefly told him the story of my friend MaryGrace who was hit by a car 9th grade summer and was in a coma for several months and how her family played her favorite song “Freebird “ over and over to her as she lay in her hospital bed and how she eventually came out of her coma , about an hour later as he was leaving he came up to me and handed me a yellow lined paper and told me to give it to my friend ( he had written : To MaryGrace , followed by the words to Freebird and signed it “from one survivor to another Johnny Van Zant “

@@EatAPeach72 Hey Dude, if they are going to talk the talk, it’d a reasonable suggestion that they walk the walk and I BELIEVE THEY DO. So I assume you’re not saved? That’s sad, extremely sad. This world is going insane and like the Bible says, “What is good will be called evil. What is evil will be called good.” You just proved that fact. Need some O2??? Or suck on the tailpipe of that 55’ Ford is more your style??? God loves you enough that He sent His only Son to die for you AND ME. We’re all sinners but we can all be saved by His grace. There’s no other way but Christ. I had a record deal in a hard rock metal band in 1986 with Elektra Records that I never signed because it was less than 4 times the amount of money I was making and I’m 59 now but graduated HS in 3 years so I could get married the following year when my current wife got out of HS. I worked 6 days a week self employed so I could work around doing 100 shows a year. I became a Christian in 1985 and by 1986, we were getting radio airplay and radio interviews and we got on the 1986 New Music Seminars “The Tape” as the only hard rock/metal band in a decade where hard rock and metal ruled the airwaves. All the doors began to open after I became a Christian. I’m glad I kept learning about the Lord because at first I thought it was God blessing me. I was sorta right. The god of this world is Satan and he was Gods chief musician and he was opening the doors for me. I wrote every song we ever recorded and the song that got us on the tape that was handed out to anyone who was anybody in the music industry and when we went to a downtown high rise in Chicago to meet with an Elektra executive, it was a massive beautiful building. What answered the door woke me up forever. She told us to have a seat in the living room and I lead the way. As soon as I got to a couch, I turned to my left and sat down. When I sat down and looked up I was stunned. There was a mural on the wall that said one thing. “GOD IS DEAD.” When I asked this person, “What’s that all about?” You would have thought I asked the time or the weather she was so flippant. “Of that? We’re Satanist’s.” True story and I’ve been a guitarist and a drummer and a bassist since I was 7 years old and I walked away from it. But these guys have something special which is to keep a bunch of great musicians who seemed ti become quite the believers in their later years and the current band (minus Gary Rossington, the last surviving member of the original band) Who is more qualified to keep the banner flying high? Johnny Van Zant. The blood brother of the founder is the perfect person to keep this going as long as possible. He can do so much for so many with the audience he still has. I would love him to give Christ his proper props whenever they are at the end of a show. Get out on the road Johnny! I had a singer who was 21 when I was a freshman in HS named Johnny who had some serious pipes. We don’t know why but he committed suicide on my dads birthday. So many of my friends are dead and if I didn’t play with them, I did shows with them and I’m just glad I stepped away. So many and so young. And as this world is beginning to crash and burn, it kills me to know there’s guys like this dude “eat a peach” that don’t understand how long eternity is in hell. Man, it was prophesied that people would turn on Christians. He needs some air or he’ll smell nothing but sulphur as his skin burns for eternity. He may be a much better person than me. But without Jesus, it doesn’t matter how good we are. Man, please reconsider your faith or lack of faith. You will thank me someday. Johnny, when I said “I walked away,” I still play but not in bands and only do my own music. If it wasn’t for Johnny, I had no idea you all rocked as hard as ya did/do?? Not applying for a job, this is one band I would love to jam with. I wish played slide brothers. Just don’t let people thinking you’re trying to capitalize on the name. I hope you are because you all have families and are musicians. Keep doing it the justice I’ve seen at a theater of all places at a show you did in Florida and I was absolutely blown away. I wish you all the best brother. Mark

That ‘87 show was incredible, Allen made his tearful drunk driving speech, and Carlos Santana walked onstage and jammed with them for a bit.

Hey Johnny. The first song I heard by you guys, I was in the Yellow Rose tavern in Charlotte, N.C. The juke box was playing "Give 3 Steps" in the seventies. Later in the seventies, my first wife and I broke up and divorced and then Free Bird came out a week later. I was free as a bird. I meet some good old boys in Orangeburg, S.C. at a pig picking and we were sitting and picking around the fire pit when one of the guys started playing and singing , Simple Man. Great song. My favorite. I'm 73 years old and I'm still listening to you guys in the band. I never have seen you guy in a live concert except on tv but if the good Lord allows music up in heaven, maybe I'll get to see you then. God bless.

Hi Johnny, I have memories of you and I on Yard Duty a Lakeshore Junior High back in the early-mid 1970's. I think we just liked to be outside rather than in the class room. 😅

Yeah, The Father (Lacy Van Zant) said Johnny sounds like Ronnie, and looks like Ronnie.Yes I think everyone will agree with that, but Johnie's humbleness of the position he was put in honors Ronnie, giving the glory to Ronnie. Let's face it who better than the closest person that sounds & looks like what we lost than his blood brother. We are blessed to have Johnny to hang-on to after the loss of Ronnie. That song by George Jones "Who's-gonna-fill-their-shoes". We can't un-ring a bell. But we can make the best of it and keep raising Hell Thanks to Johnie Van Zant. Stay healthy Johnny 😇🎸🇺🇸🦍
