Yeah...I was in the Army an this was on XERB a lot...I was stationed at Ft Huachuca AZ... I got out alive in '69.

Johnny is too often left out of the g.o.a.t. discussions. I personally don't think we are well served by always searching for the "best", but Johnny is on Mount Rushmore. He is authentic. No artifice or "look at me" stuff with this guy. His virtuosity always serves the song.. His vocals are rarely mention,d, but he is soulful and true to the lyric every time. We saw him live in Savannah, GA years ago. All us guitar players were crowding the stage. And now, for something completely different........ My own present day obsession is the Lonnie Johnson and Eddie Lang (Blind Willie Dunn) sessions from the late 1929s. To my mind, they are still unsurpassed. I also love Lonnie's solo stuff from the same vintage. Actually, these are always on heavy rotation in my blues world..

@@doctorskull8197 early Johnny pre-bird, he played a Fender 12-string with just six strings in one KZbin video -- then his headless Blazer era- odd but happened. So I guess if it had six-strings Maybe someone has a story or interview about it. Also great singer Steve Marriott of the Small Faces & Humble Pie bands liked the Epi series when they were USA Kalamazoo, Mich made too.

Johnny played many guitars in his days but this is a 60s Epi. Wilshire not a Coronent & some confuse the Epiphone & Gibson Coronet & the Wilshire as they are pretty close in appearance . The photo may not really be what he's playing on this as we can't see what he's using but any guitar he touched was like turning lead into gold. As Epiphone is a part of gibson these guitars are still being made but what Johnny used was a 60s model & man could make that thing wail. Both models used this Fender style headstock & a almost Gibson looking regular style so it does get a bit confusing when your guessing at what's what. Johnny was way ahead of most of his peers which lasted his whole career & he is missed by us all.
