The Johnny Winter Live And Album changed my life. I was just 14 and starting to listen to Hendrix, The Who, Led Zep, but Johnny's music rang out as 'True' from the fist time I heard him, same as later with SRV. Remained a huge fan, caught him in a small night club in Albuquerque in the early 90's when he was frail, but still delivering the blazing leads and screaming blues voice we all love. Thank you Mr. WInter, and the Guitar Meets Science crew. In this day and age, we cannot forget these amazing artists.

Although I'd begun collecting vinyl as a 7 year-old, I had no real knowledge of the blues. Then sometime after my 12th birthday, an older cousin turned me on the Second Winter. My music world was completely rocked and the blues became everything, with Johnny was my guitar hero. I finally got to see him live in the early 80's at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco. It was a dinner show and my table butted up against the stage. His microphone stand was probably 6 feet from my seat and I was starstruck the entire evening.

A real guitar giant, all time inspiration and influence since I was a kid, his albums Johnny Winter and...Live and Captured Live are extraordinary pieces of music and I have to say that his all time collaborator and friend Rick Derringer was the perfect partner for his playing making these albums two masterpieces of blues and rock when of course all his records are completely legendary. It's really disgraceful what management did to him but unfortunately many artists were victims of these practices for decades particularly with early jazz musicians, however Johnny will be always in my heart and will remain a strong reason to pick the guitar and play just the same he was when I was very young. Love forever Johnny ❤❤❤❤❤

👍👍 I caught Johnny twice before he passed. The second was shortly before he passed. I was in the restroom and the door came flying open and it was him and one of his crew. He had his britches down and headed into the stall as soon as he entered, LoL. I sat about ten feet away from him during the show and I could tell that he had nemonia or something as his nose was running steady and his eyes watery. He sized up the crowd before he started playing and focused on mostly rock stuff and his trademark slide playing. He had his double rattle snake hat on and you could barely see his blue dragon tattoo that always fascinated me. I felt that he was determined to go out with his boots on (on the road) and then I heard he was going to continue touring in Europe and I thought to myself that's a lot to take on in his condition. Then later, I heard he passed.. The man was born to play the guitar no doubt in my mind whatsoever. 💫

I still dont understand why anyone but music aficionados hippies dont understand how great a guitarist he was. He had some serious stuff going on with technique, and was in the realm of Mike Bloomfield. They were geniuses as much as VanHalen, and JUST as technical in a different way. The slide and vibrato are simply out of this world. Hendrix recognized his talent immediately. It is a complete shame the Blues got shafted in the 60s and 70s. It is the original American music artform. All other music comes from somewhere else.
@nachyomoney35985 күн бұрын
As a musician and a student of blues and jazz, it sadly seems apparent that the genres have increasingly became artforms that are mostly appreciated of fellow artists and musicians. Generally speaking, mainstream folks that are musically illiterate just don't appreciate this type of music anymore.

Nice Project! 👏 I saw Johnny 15 different times AND Edgar (sometimes with Zerringer) EVERY time they came out to California!🥳🥂 Mr. Winter was also an ACE HARP-monica player on his early recordings!💯 One time I caught Johnny at the Hollywood Palace when my Mentor JAMES HARMAN (who also use to play with Canned Heat!) opened for him; KILLER SHOW!!!🙉🥳 Growing up in Venice Beach🏄♂️, in the 70's my buds and I all LOVED Led Zep, VanHalen, Deep Purple, etc., BUT I turned them all on to THE WINTER BROTHERS and went on to play in various Blues Rock bands because of it! 🙆♂️ RIP 🙏💙🕊

I saw him play once, he came out and just proceeded to blow the doors off the doors off the place... he was deep into a long, ripping solo when you could see that little E string hanging off the neck of his guitar. Well, you wouldn't know it the way he was playing... and then...whack! There went the g string. Didn't even faze him, he kept playing that beautiful solo just like he wanted, as if he had all six strings instead of four. He was tough, man... he played a lotta guitars with busted up strings, and he knew how to handle that guitar. He was a great player, quite unique in his power and showmanship, I will always think of him with great respect and a fine memory of the time I saw him play live...

As a young boy, I saw him live at the famous Rockpalast concert in Germany. Awesome!
