Somehow, this song was huge in the 80s - mostly among poofy-haired indian teenage girls in the states, Canada and UK.
But seriously, he was one of the first performers to fuse Western and Punjabi musical styles and paved the way for numerous other artists. Arguably, without this song, Punjabi music in the west would not be what it is today.

I'm 39 & this takes me back to my childhood in 1980s Handsworth, which was the capital of Punjabi music outside of India at that time. My Dad used to play this loud in his van. I actually met Johnny Zee when I was 15, but he had rebranded as Taz by then, & wasn't happy with me calling him Johnny Zee.
