Tex was also in a James Bond movie where he had a bit part as a government employee and helped Bond near the end of the movie get out of a parachute, I think, to continue his mission. Sorry I don’t remember the movie or more details. Cobb was a good-natured, fast talking dude in the movie just like in real life.

Carson was so good at getting the best interview possible from his guests. He knew exactly when to shut up and listen, and when to coax more out of a guest. My Dad’s older brother, Uncle Greg, was the same kinda guy that way. Any time my Pa got bullied by the other kids in school, my Uncle would wait for the bus for my Dad to get off and ask him which one was the bully that picked on him and he would PULVERIZE the kid to a pulp leaving him crying his butt off. Even in places like High-School he would still stomp the Crap outta any sort of Bully, A-hole Student, or Punk. Surprisingly, the Vice-Principal was quite approving of this even one time letting Uncle Greg beat up an ASS of a student who was mocking a Special-Needs kid. I tell ya, even today he’s one helluva Man.

Without interviews like this. You wouldn't know how honest, courageous and the level of his sense of humor. He's a funny guy. It also kind of a funny feeling, when watching these old interviews now. When RTC(26M) is around my dad's age(and would be in his mid 70's), I'm not quite twice as old as his him today, I think. What was I doing at 26 years old? Being divorced 3 years prior, working at a Ford Assembly Plant(KCAP) were a standard F-150 pick-up shift worker worked 10hrs/5days/wk.(17:30-04:00). Then they went to a mandatory 11hrs/5days/wk., two Saturdays on, off one, two Saturdays on, off one, one Sunday on, two off, one Sunday on, two off the last year or two. Yes, when we started that work schedule 74hrs./7days/wk., 65hrs./6/days/wk., 55hrs./5days/wk., 65hrs./6days/wk., then repeated that same schedule for a year or two. I had 5years at ford then. I was drinking gallons of Crown Royal to get through the day, I'd buy a couple of cases of CR(12-5ths/case) at a time. I had enough bags you could make a couple comforters king size(because I gave them away and that's what they had done with them. I took a leave of app. from Ford for 4yrs., joined the Army with a IAR(Infantry, Airborne, R.I.P.) contract for 3yrs. 17wks. enlistment[2000Aug15-2003Dec11]. It was 9 months before I got to 1/75th RGR Bat(2001Apr-May). As tufff as that was, which some of my buddies were talking and laughing about conversation we'd had at the time during training and everything we'd been through since then to now. Was nothing, a cake walk, walk in the park, do it in our sleep(or the front leaning rest position. 😂😂😂). We laughed. It probably saved my life and I'd do again. Like all my stories, it got long. Smh... it's like jumping into a Time Machine. That's why love music so much. A song comes on and some meaningful time in your life that song takes you too, like a snap of your fingers. That memory pops in your head, I love those moments. I love the feeling I get(good/bad memory) when it happens. I don't know if everyone has them, I do. The memory is as clear as day and depending on what I'm doing, is how long it lasts. If I'm setting around it's almost like I'm watching it on a TV or standing away like a spectator. Life's a trip, smile and enjoy it. You only go around once. Blessings be upon thee

Boxing back then would do that. I'm sure he aged a lot during his brawl with Shavers. Cobb was also a champion kick boxer. He was always in great condition, had a great chin and a lot of heart. His late night T.V. appearances were hilarious. One of the real good guys in a very dirty sport/business.
@MattUFLАй бұрын
His Wiki says he was born in December 1953, which would have made him 28 in this interview. He might have said 26 to give the impression that he had more runway on his career (a boxer with 2 losses pushing 30 could be looked down on as having less potential than a younger boxer with the same record). Who knows.

@CJ4S1472 ай бұрын
I haven't seen it, but from Cobbs comments, he struggled to get close enough to hit Holmes who had a clear reach advantage. Cobb took all the punishment that Holmes was able to give. Cobb quoted Holmes as saying a rematch was an unequivocal NO! Not sure if Holmes didn't want to take the risk of Cobb finding a way to get to him or just didn't see the point in a rematch. I'm guessing the latter.

Howard Cosell quit commentating boxing because of the the brutality of the Cobb/Holmes fight. Cobb took a beating from Holmes that would have killed a normal man, never so much as staggered and kept right on coming. Cosell correctly stated the fight should have been stopped long before the last round. I’m not sure if Cobb ever got that interview but when he was asked what he thought about Cosell retiring from broadcasting boxing he said: “I’d be happy to play some football of that would make him quit talking about that, too!”
@chesterproudfoot98644 ай бұрын
The math doesn't add up. Cobb says here he's 26, which would mean he was born in 1956. Wikipedia simultaneously lists his birth year as 1953 and 1951 (saying he graduated in 2008 at age 57). Tip: never rely on Wikipedia for anything. Some websites even suggest 1950. Anyone know for sure what the correct year is?
