Spyro the Dragon -33- Gnasty Gnorc

FINAL BOSS TIME! I had several things to say about this, but there's nothing you wouldn't be able to pick up yourself. Is this the greatest boss fight ever, or just an annoying racing level? Did we get to really fight Gnasty Gnorc? At all? Who is he even?
I also intended to add in a joke of how everything will be fine just as long as I don't die 48 times in a row and I was going to leave in my deaths, but after the first try and the first and only death at the very end of the level near the final platforms I realized, you start chasing the thiefs all over again when you die. Oh, joy! I just couln't get enough of this fun and exciting gameplay already that I'm so happy I could die because I can chase them all over again.
Spyro's one of the greatest games ever made, it just has pointless annoyances like this. This is less of a boss fight than Toasty. Spyro wouldn't need bosses at all if you ask me, the normal levels kick enough ass, but this could've been a better level. Have at least powerups return. Maybe Gnasty could be impossible to beat at first, and you would have to free fairies who give you a kiss so you can harm Gnasty, and at one point you could just try to quickly scale a tower-like, sort of platfroming maze kind of thing while avoiding Gnasty's attacks, trying to get the unlimited powerup or a supercharge or something and go through walls and crap and flame Gnasty's ass.
I'm disappointed, but I say again: Spyro is awesome, some things just could've been even better.

You know what's funny about the suggestions you made in the description? Google some videos for the Beta version of Spyro the Dragon Gnasty Gnorc fight. Every single one of your suggestions is in the beta version but were inexplicably removed for the retail release. In the beta, a fire fairy is used to hurt Gnasty, he cannot be harmed until you get the fire powerup, the chase route is different and includes more tricky platforming, and there are even mooks to knock you off ledges in the final section. Insomniac was probably rushing at the last second so they had to scrap it for this version.

The fire fairy makes sense since all the other enemies in the game with armor are protected from fire yet Gnasty Gnorc can't take the heat for some reason. Would have been awesome with all the power ups.

It's actually rather ironic that such an easy and pathetic boss was able to trap 70+ large dragons. I'd obviously have prefered a better final boss, with uses of powerups (super-flame, super-charge, fairy-whirlwinds, super flight). But at the same time, I think it fits the game and Gnasty Gnorc himself... It shows how stupid and ridiculous of a "person" he is, making this level more funny than anything :P Great game anyways! Loved playing it!

I was disappointed at this boss level. When I first heard that you were supposed to reach the exit in all the levels first, I thought that was perfect because I thought that you would fight gnasty gnorc in the same place you started at when you got to his world or something else like the balloonist would take you to his arena, then there would be a cut-scene, and it would be a huge brawl with the big guy instead of chasing him.

In mt opinion, this is the worst level in the game. It's not really hard, but simply disappointing, Gnasty Gnorc is set up to be badass villain and yet he just runs away from a tiny dragon throughout the whole fight (If you can even call this a fight). Shame that a such a fun game ends with a terrible level, but Gnorc Loot somewhat makes up for it

The bosses are, in my opinion, the game's only failure. The only boss i find remotely challenging is Metalhead, all other bosses are extremely easy. Other than that, Spyro 1 is a near perfect game, and one of my favorite games on the PS1 (i actually like it more than the sequels, Spyro 2 and 3, but that's mostly because i didn't own the sequels as a kid).

I just beat gnorc again since i beat the game back in 1999. I remember playing this as a child and thinking to myself "Is that all? This is the big bad Gnasty Gnorc?" It all just seemed too easy. Only thing is that i didn't collect all the treasure and i was missing a few dragons so i never opened up the third gnorc world dragon head. One of the tricky ones was in tree tops. Constantly jumping over to different charge pads to reach those high areas are something i would have not figured out myself without looking at a youtube guide haha. No youtube in 1999! My overall percentage was 93% because i still have the original memory card. Now i am at 100 percent and about to enter the final place. I wonder what is in store! I also purchased riptos rage and year of the dragon recently and can't wait to play them since i never purchased them in the past.

Well according to hacking, the bosses and the last world were kind of rushed, which is why the beta versions battle had more content.

Shark0nTricycle I can remember Ripto's Rage and Year Of The Dragon quite vividly but I can only recall like a quarter of this. Most probably rightly so as as a kid I could barely figure out 98% of the jumps etc. Replayed this at 27 and I'm stuck at 93% too. Couldn't get all the flight levels in one go and of course the insane Tree Tops and other levels with the supercharge platforms. Replayed it on a PC emulator and I don't think the memory card function is usable. I'm about to pull the plug after what feels like a week just to get that measly 93%. Oh well. Least I can live the success vicariously through these walk throughs

I've been having issues with my jump button not registering (probably because I threw my controller during Tree Tops), so I ended up having to restart this level so many times because he'd just walk off the platforms at the end instead of jumping and gliding...almost threw the controller a second time...

I was just reading some comments in this comments section, about Gnasty Gnorc being too easy to defeat, and watching the video led me to think that Gnasty Gnorc is maybe supposed to be easy to defeat on purpose, because his main intention is to come off as more threatening than he actually is. Those who are not very powerful, can be defeated easily.

I didn't have the original Spyro (though I did rent it from Blockbuster), so I never got this far. I did get the Reignited Trilogy a few years ago and I was able to get all the way to Gnasty Gnorc. It's not too difficult, but it's a pretty weird boss fight. If anything, the last part is probably the one you have to worry about the most. Since there are no checkpoints, if you die you have to start the fight all over again. It's actually best to go through this twice, first to get all the gems and then to beat Gnasty Gnorc. The music of the level is definitely the best part. I like that the boss levels in the original Spyro are full levels instead of just arenas, complete with gems and secret areas.

I like how Insomniac adds that at the end of the credits for their games. They did it with the Resistance trilogy, in which they said that no mutated alien Chimera were harmed in the making of the games, and I've heard that they did it for some of their Ratchet and Clank titles.

I've just spent 3 hours trying to do this level and I just can't. It takes me 30 minutes of chasing him around before I can get the first hit on him. For the platforms, if you pause even for a second you will not make it. I'm going to cancel my preorder for the HD trilogy. Since I can't beat it, there is no point in having it in HD.
