The irony, I think, is that Bloody Sunday became such a cause in itself that without it (and the commitment to properly investigate it), there wouldn't have been enough impetus to get the peace talks over the line in 1998. I was in Guildhall Square when David Cameron read out an apology via video link from Westminster for the actions on Bloody Sunday, the cover ups, and the lies. It was such a weight off of peoples' shoulders, and still gets me emotional to think about. If you ever get the chance you should definitely visit Derry. It has an incredibly rich history from the Medieval period, through the wars of William of Orange, through the World Wars, and into the Troubles. It's a city, but really feels like a medium sized town, very walkable, and a gateway into stunning scenery in Donegal.

This is sadly not the only “Bloody Sunday” to happen. There was the one in 1920 in Croke Park. The British came in to a Gaelic Football match and started firing at the players and crowd. Killed 14 people and injured over 60. My Great GrandFather was the referee that day and had to pull bodies of players off the field. He was given a 21 gun salute by the IRA when he passed in the 1970’s. My father use to tell me stories of hearing bombs going off as a kid constantly. The amount of cars being hijacked and used for bombs was at such a frequent event. Thankfully they moved to Canada in 1981. 🇨🇦

As a Brit, we don't really get taught much on topics like these, we are primarily taught our participation in the world wars and some brief time periods over our long and mixed history. I do feel proud to be a Brit as we have done and made a lot of good and advantages like the leading the industrial revolution, introducing infrastructure like railways that would half travel times (granted a fair amount of these constructions were at the expense of others) as well as our stereo typical pride and the ideal of keeping our chins up. However as a history fan it goes without saying that we have done a lot of horrendous acts that are understandably unforgivable, acts that are still felt to this day, something I strongly believe is that if history is to be taught you need to not only mention the troubles we have faced but the pain we have dealt which is something not taught unless you choose to pursue these topics yourself. With all that happened in Ireland its more then understandable why there is still tension and why there is still a lot of hate and mistrust between us and I personally believe that the actions my countrymen had taken is unjustifiable and the military personnel who partook in the shootings and mass violence should've been held accountable. But the actions of the government should have been brought up and acted on with those PMs losing their positions and face criminal charges. That being said the actions taken by both sides to promote the violence are unacceptable all be it understandable. One of the biggest problems faced when it comes to history or just looking at events is that we humans are a very biased lot and there are a lot of grey zones where the actions taken can be understandable. You don't have to agree with it, like it or support it but there are always going to be parts left out by whoever reviews it. I commend those in the comments from both sides acting civil on a topic that is understandably difficult and I commend Johnny for making a video on the topic as its one that isn't really that mentioned unless you want to start a argument. Sorry for the long comment just wanted to say what was on my mind.

It's quite weird growing up British with the internet and becoming very aware of how much suffering we caused and continue to cause. Then you look around and most of the country aren't aware/don't care that its happening and think we are great. A lot of people think British colonialism is a thing of the distant past and we are nothing like that any more. We are exactly like that still. We just buddy up with our allies when we want to pillage a part of the world now- all under the guise of anti terrorism. hmm I'm sure the million dead Iraqi's (one of many examples) are glad of our brave anti terrorism! I don't think people realise that the US and the UK etc are just as much propaganda machines as say Russia. I love where I am from and the people in general, but our leadership/foreign policy is so far gone down this path of selfishness and straight up apathy for anyone who isn't part of the "us" and is unfortunate enough to be a "them". Same for the leadership of most of the west. And same for the leadership of most of the Wests enemies now unfortunately, we made that bed ourselves, treat people like animals and they will learn to hate just like you.
