Rhaenys, the Queen who never was is half Baratheon. The Baratheon’s voted for her to be Queen. Along with the Starks and few other Houses. So if a Baratheon is mentioning it he’s clearly upset. Especially considering Jaehaerys, who called the great council was installed by a Baratheon and protected by him

I still don't understand why Viserys didn't annul Daemon's marriage to Rhea Royce (since there were no children) and marry him to Rhaenyra when she turned 18 - would have prevented a lot of problems. It's not as if House Targaryen didn't practice incest; Viserys and Daemon's own parents (Prince Baelon and Princess Alyssa) were full siblings, as were their grandparents King Jaehaerys I and Queen Alysanne.

@@brucenatelee There's no indication in the book or the show that Daemon hated the idea of his brother's rule or that he himself was "unhinged", he just believed that Viserys was not strong enough to rule effectively without Daemon's personal support.

The costumes were beautifully done. I've also been watching Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power and was struck by how inferior the costuming is compared to HOTD, especially when you consider the budget that Amazon poured into ROP.

They disrespected Tolkiens world and works, told a GARBAGE story that literally spits in the face of an all time author, and they couldn't even make it look decent. They kinda misrepresented the succession issue at the beginning. The question was never would Rhaenys invert the throne. That was never an outcome that was on the table. She never had an actual claim, the claim was her Son’s. The question was could the crown pass through her to her son, as she was the closest living relative to the King. Instead the lord chose not to change several centuries of tradition…big shocker.

No, the Targs never established a law of succession and Andal tradition would have favored Rhaenys. The sources are biased but if you read it seriously you can easily see the jumps in logic made to push your idea.

⁠@@emperoremperor1486except that in the book it’s explicitly stated. In the show the grand Maester explicitly states it’s against Andal tradition to ever let a woman inherit. They said this frequently in GoT as well. Thousands of years of Andal history, a brother inherits before a daughter. There is no leap of logic. Simply watching the show and paying attention whilst not allowing my personal opinion on women rulers enter the equation.

The first born of both lines later married, which should have resolved any issues and strengthened Rhaenyra’s claim against her brother. Of course neither the show or book brought that angle up.

GOT may have been a great show for a while, but its second half was, in my eyes anyway, lacking the punch the first four seasons gave us. HOTD is really starting off amazingly, and it's first season has been spectacular from start to finish, but I severely hope it doesn't suffer the same decline its predecessor did 😟

The choice isn't save the mother or save the child, the choice is cut the baby out and maybe save it but guarantee the mother's death, or do nothing and as they said "leave it with the gods" and just hope maybe the mother and/or the child survive (though not likely)
