I really appreciate your videos I have learned so much. I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way but it is more satisfying to actually see the bullet holes in your target than the computer's interpretation of where the bullet punched a hole in your target. That's just my opinion. Keep on keeping on!!!

@@russtuff Yeah ,bullets, powder and primers have become spendy and hard to find. Especially for the 6.5. At least here in Canada. I lucked out recently and was able to stock up on several of my preferred powders. The ELD X's are impossible to find here, but the 140 BTHP are usually available. Good luck in your reloading venture. With the right combo that gun should shoot great.

Johnny. I'm really enjoying this video series. I had a 22-250 788 once, that was many years ago. one thing I think about, the 788 is a run of the mill, however, as I stated,, Mill, production milling, they made thousands of those rifles and nothing custom was done to those actions. they are as they came from Reminton. -Dave

Spot on. He makes it look easy but it really takes a lot of time to just prep and load, nevermind the photography and the shooting. I've had 3 different 22-250 barrels and all were Remington take offs and one I had rechambered in 22Dasher. Recently I put on a smithed/fitted 22-250 take off on one of my actions and is looking good but it is too early to tell.

The first 22-50 that I purchased was used and at first that shot straight half inch or less groups . I shot crows at 300 yards. I settled on Varget A-Max 52 grain with 1:14 twist. After serval hinders of rounds, the gun shot erratic which is kind of what you’re seeing for your testing. I sent it in to Ruger and they said that the barrel was worn out. Fortunately for me they offered to replace the barrel for free but we’re no longer in production so the gave me a Hawkeye 22-350 at cost.

I was just reading that the Speer 70gr Semi Spitzer SP was designed to stabalize in 1:12 and 1:14 twist, with its very short round nose design. Its listed as a heavy jacket, controlled expansion, varmint bullet. Might be a fair option for hunting, if the 62gr GD doesn't stabalize. If it shoots, it would be very interesting to see what it does in gel.

So fast and so accurate, do have a photo of the group @ 300. Do you have any idea of what H could be using in their boxes right off the shelf? 24" heavy barrel on a B-14 Bergara , sure like some input from you. Great to see a 788. I have the same gun, but with original barrel cut down to 21.5". I get similar accuracy as your getting with 50gr Vmax and 34gr Varget. Of course not with the velocities your seeing. That H380 load was smoking. I have yet to try H380 but maybe I should get a lbs. At least it is readily available, Varget not so much. Interesting that the POI was identical for both loads with such different velocities.

I just noticed your rifle is a Rem 788. My first rifle (1977) was a barreled action LH 788 in 6mm Rem.. I sent it to Bishop for a stock and it has been very accurate. At the time there was not much in LH. I think Rem. had a LH 700 in 30-06 (which I have also). My BIL has a stock 788 in 22-250 and has taken wood chucks out to 400 yards with factory ammo.

I'm surpised by this. I have a Ruger American Predator in 22-250 with a Vortex Crossfire 2 scope. All in was like $780. I shoot factory loads of Hornandy Varmint Express VMAX 55 gr around 1.25" groups at 200 yards. I was expecting one ragged hole in this video given your precision hand loads. I clean my gun after every shooting session....could be why maybe? I know it goes against the grain as it realtes to cleaning to much. But it wokrs and I have no reason to change anything.

I competed using a 22lr...at 50 yards. Most use sub-sonic rounds. Used an expensive rifle. ( I dont have one of those ! ) First think I notices.. I could " see " the bullets go down range. With a perfect back ground and lighting this is possible ! Very interesting..... I watched the bullets cork screw down range. After trying this with three different rifles. Im now positive its not the shooter. Its the rifle and or bullets/ cartridges ! There is only so much a person can do to make a rifle shoot accurately. After that....its mother nature at work ! People make up many excuses for accuracy. Not many apply !

Awesome video! I wouldn't be too awfully worried about SDs and ES with the 22-250 due to the speeds being so high. 50 FPS isn't going to matter in ranges that the 22-250 shines in anyhow. Especially when those 50grs are cranking at 3800+. In my experience the 22-250 falls apart after 400 yards due to the low B.C of the bullets without wind. With wind, it struggles past 300. Your overall result was stellar and I would feel plenty armed taking that out varminting.

I've been using suede bags for years & years......best way to go. I've bought and tried other rests with the plastic, rubber, & foam surfaces and they're horrible. Anything sticky or grippy is a bad idea......like the old MTM Predator rests for example. They'll grip the stock and if there's any torque or pressure on the stock in any lateral direction, at the shot, the gun will snap loose in that direction tossing it. Leather is a good alternative to suede if you use baby powder on them to coat them with. Anything with vinyl, plastic, or foam cradling surfaces.......no good

I think the 22-250 may be one of the best calibers for punching through body armor. Any chance you could test various bullet designs vs some thick ar500 to see what turns to smoke and what pokes holes? China is rumored to have Ironman looking suits that makes the 2 California bank robbers look soft. It is supposed to withstand sustained small arms fire from all standard hunting rifle calibers using standard ammo.

Nice shooting and nice rifle! I reload my 22-250 ammo and I use H380 and I get great groups with Hornady 55 grain bullets also. I can't use any bullets heavier than 55 grains, the rifle with a stainless steel barrel has a 1 in 12 twist rate, a little faster than your Douglas' 1 in 14.

You can see on the rifle at 19:00 when you shoot the last (10th) shot, something else is happening. Quite nice to video your shooting like this, you can notice things afterwards that can help alot in diagnosing accuracy issues. Wich that load does not have.

Try bumping up the h380 load to 39.5 gr. Been a great load in several 22-250's for me.

Johnny, every one of your shots were a couple of clicks to the left of the Y axis! Perfect groups!

I think a rail will sort of ruin the looks of the rifle. Will be interesting to see what setup you end up with.
