What made you go with a VW 1.6 instead of the 2.3 Lima?

I can't run the Lima on biodiesel 😁

@@JohnPetschethe 1.9 tdi gets 50% better mpg. And 50% more power.

If you really wanted good mpg you’d just have a vw rabbit. Ranger weight 4,200lbs - 5,000lbs. Vw rabbit 1750-1900lbs. Where again you have more than twice better power to weight ratio. My diesel vw rabbit pickup makes 75mpg easy. And I guarantee that 1.6 in a Ranger is about the weight of a vanagon. Which equals 25-30mpg maybe. And the 2.3 gas is rated at 21-25mpg. I applaud you for what you’ve built. But as an objective mechanic you are defeating your purpose by spending time on a machine that doesn’t do what you want from it.

And as you spend ‘a lot of time’ Tinkering with all the BS sensors. If you account for your time and efforts. You may as wel have worked entire days on end + parts cost To get exactly the same mpg. And if you’ve got that diesel that HAS BLOW BY PROBLEMS hooked up your cat. It WILL CLOG Which will then more than offset ALL THE WORK AND TIME AND MPG you did. Just think about objective facts if all I want

A faster idle would reduce vibration at idle. Did you make or purchase the adaptor plate?. Thinking an AHU engine would transform that truck,
@JohnPetsche12 күн бұрын
Once the engine chewed through the air in the fuel system, the idle speed rose to 830-850 rpm, which I think is the factory recommendation and it sounds much better. I designed the adapter plate, and may upgrade to a faster engine at a later date, but I'm enjoying driving it around as-is, especially now that I've installed 4.56 gears and improved the acceleration.

I agree, especially with alh electronics and a vnt turbo. They run pretty much like an alh at that point. Or you could run a mechanical pump and a wastegated turbo. The later alh electronics allow for onboard tuning vs the ahu chip tuning that is getting more difficult to find than it used to be.

@@ThatFenixit’s easy to run a vnt and mTDI with no computer or sensors. I swapped my ahu in. 2010 The vw rabbit truck weight LESS THAN HALF as much as his ranger.and it makes 3x the power. And more than twice the mpg. Putting a vw 4cyl diesel in a large vehicle is tremendous stress if he doesn’t have egt gauge he prolly melting it making a heavy vehicle be pulled by a 1.6 The 1.6 diesel vanagon, which is the same weight as a ranger. … Had a 0-50mph of 1 minute. And a 50-60mph of 50 seconds. Yes that’s a 2 minute 0-60mph And yes to ask a engine to go full power accel for minutes on end WILL MELT DOWN ANY SMALL DIESEL

@@fastinradfordable There's nothing wrong with running any diesel engine at full power for long periods of time, as long as the engine is on a stock tune and producing factory rated power levels.

As a vw diesel specialist. You need to re-read head torque procedure. And head retorque is ONLY NEEDED with the crap composite head gasket. If you had a mls headgasket there is no retorque.

The only reason that happened was you cranked it with the valves out of time.

If you don’t replace the other exhaust valves. It will happen again soon.
@JohnPetsche7 күн бұрын
@@fastinradfordable the truck ran fine for 250 miles before the valve broke up, and there was no skipped timing or valve-to-piston contact beforehand. Also I swapped to an entirely new head because of the combustion chamber damage, so I essentially did replace all the valves.
