Wow, beautiful playing all round. ...And what a drummer! Incredible flow... Kept me there every step of the way, a rare thing. Inspiring indeed... I'm off to practice!

Great solo. I can learn a lot from it. Drummers today are nothing buy loud and fast. No melodic phrasing or structure. Bashers not drummers. Kudos John !

How time flies, John. I first listened to this video the same years as you posted it, i.e. almost 10 years ago. It was well worth another listen today and I was struck more than ever before by the excellence of your playing. I loved your solo, but not only that. Your accompaniment was of the highest order, and so appropriate. Bravo!

Its like a time machine... This being played like it were a new song that just came out... Not routine cover. Drumming is excellent!

I really need someone to instruct me on how to get a snare drum tuned like that. Try as I might I can never quite get it. Great solo all around!

@johnpetters You are most welcome. If you are ever in the SW area, Somerset, Devon etc, then I would be keen to come and say hello!! My father late father was a huge trad jazz fan, and the Chris Barber singles etc (which I inherited) were a huge part of my musical chilhood. I will attempt to look up your band! All the best.

Listened to Petters play his drum solo. In all fairness and not being too too critical. The drum solo reminds me of a Wanna Be Gene Krupa. The drum solo starts off with meaningful intentions. ???? Then the solo is the same as a automobile stuck in a Mud Hole. It does not go any where.???? Come on now. Here is the time for a drummer to tell a story and do more than just a four four four on the bass drum. Keep waiting for some interesting drumming to go here???? It really just stays with the same same same ideas not going any where??? Gene would and could Mix it up and make it interesting. What I heard was a repetition of the same idea the same phrasings. You can fall asleep on this drum solo. All the other musicians there are in top form. All in All nothing to excite or even come close to Krupa interpretation. just an opinion.

Wow. I am shocked that there are still people like you out there. You're right he isn't Gene, but who is? Jazz is the expression of the individual and it's hard to see that there are still people like yourself that cannot appreciate it for the moment it existed in. It's a great solo, with a great band. It's a shame to see that you cannot appreciate it.
