When I first saw this performance, it literally left me in shock. It elevated BTS from "a really good pop/rap group" to "a once in a generation artist". I also don't know if you noticed the lights that came down for each of their individual performances. Seven members, seven lights that in the end formed the constellation Corona Borealis, which is tied to a story of Dionysus. Funny you said that about the awards show. I've theorized that BTS doesn't care where or for what, they always give their best performance so their sincerity shines through. The crowd is captivated and it literally turns the place into their concert. They are being included in the performance as well.
@naturegirl99812 жыл бұрын
Did you notice how the crowd is chanting the ARMY chants and singing along with the song? They have to be LOUD to be picked up by the professional recording equipment. I will say, after attending 5 live concerts, you have to experience the “sounds” of a BTS live performance to have any appreciation for the very organic and real experience that is hard to express with words. Dare I say it’s on the same level as a feeling of epiphany, makes you have goose bumps and the hairs all over your body vibrate from electricity. If a recording can hint at that level of connectivity then you can expect the IRL experience to transcend.

This was from the annual Melon Music Awards, a Korean award show the equivalent to the Billboard Awards. BTS swept the awards, thus closed the award show, though many other artists did indeed perform beforehand. The cost of the production for BTS entertainment company BigHit, was over 500K dollars, and all the in-house production team of BigHit started planning it over half a yr beforehand! Also most of the rehearsal time that BTS had, was while they were touring worldwide. But they all were quite into doing this, and somehow managed to fit in the rehearsal like they did the yr before. The only one who performed live only, without benefit of VCR being shown, for the broadcasted version, was Jimin, who shows here being the phenomenal, outstanding, ever so breathtakingly amazing professional dancer he is, which he was even before joining BTS. His performance was beyond mesmerizing, so poised & elegant of a dancer. With the exception of Jimin, all the other solo performances were prerecorded live, with smaller audience the day before, since there was no way to have these stage sets and tank pool of water let alone have JK who was performing the dance in water get dried and change clothes beforehand! Although, all the members performed a live version of their solo dance, for the live audience, while the VCR was playing the prerecorded version that the broadcast, & or online audience saw. Also certain songs like Mikrokosmos were performed live beforehand, as well, so they could also allow for the special effects that only people who saw the broadcast on TV in South Korea or had it stream worldwide could see that version. Also the part with the live horses was filmed beforehand without an audience.

@@JohnReavesLive The prerecorded parts were : the intro video, mikrokosmos, RM/V/Jin/JK/Suga/ Jhope solo performances (all pretaped but done live), the part with the horses onstage. These portions are played at the awards show on the screen for the audience and they are cheering watching the pre-taped video. The live performances at the the actual awards show: Boy in Luv, Boy with Luv, Jimin solo dance, Dionysus at the end As someone in the US growing up watching american awards shows like the Grammys I am in awe of them. The Asian awards shows are WAY bigger with multiple stages and bigger production that they make American awards shows look like an after-work dinner event. These Asian awards last about 5-6 hours and in between performances they hand out awards. Of course BtS are saved for last because no one would dare perform after them 😂. This night at MMA 2019 they took home 8 awards including all 4 of the Grand Prizes. BTS turn these awards shows into their own mini-concerts. The amount of dedication and practice to perform at this level this all takes is astounding.

One thing I always think about is how no one new to BTS ever gets it when we say they are sooo “extra”. This wasn’t just an awards show performance in many ways it was them showing an industry that had treated them fairly badly what they could do and how far above like the greek gods they portray here they are above everyone else. It’s levels and layers of meaning and it’s the best. Just FYI they built up to this every year getting bigger longer stages till this 38 min full on concert in the end of a 4 hour awards show. Keep in mind “poor guys” never got a break that night 🤣. They won every awards (9 total x swept all 4 grand prizes the first time any group ever swept the grand prizes). And a song Suga wrote for someone else even won so it was just their work all damn night. They really sent a message this night and they paid for all this out of pocket. All the extras the extra stuff they needed for the sets etc. That is a flex.

It looks like a giant horn - the horses is represent a Thracian horses that herd by thracian horseman clan to worshipped Dionysus - the panther balloon is represent one of Dionysus sacred animal (beside panther is a tiger, bull n serpent). in BTS Mama 2019 performance, BTS use a huge serpent/snake statue to replace the panther when they perform Dionysus

Suga - Hephaestus God of Fire JK - Poseidon God of the Sea JHope- Zeus God of Thunder and lightining RM - Dionysus God of fertility, wine, music, excitement, later was made Patron of Arts The lights represents the constelation of Corona Borealis. It has the shape of a crown that Ariadne wore on her wedding day with Dionysus. After she dies, Dionysus created the corana borealis to celebrate her. BTS always goes all out with details!

I love Jin's low register in Dionysus! I mean he can really be flexible at any range. Falsettos, high notes or low register 🥺 I also miss these award show performances. They stopped attending/performing in them now. I'm happy to see how they recognize BTS and give them what they deserve. BTS is the first group that ever win main awards that's not from the big 3 companies in Korea. This performance speaks of it too, like which award show would give you a very long time to perform even if they're the Artist of the year, right. American music awards show is NOTHING compared to Korean ones. Thank you for reacting to this and even taking the time to watch the songs included in this perf. I enjoyed re-watching this with you! I’m so glad you did it this way. Very smart. I know I suggested it a long time ago-not that my suggestion was the one-but often ARMYs suggest newer BTS reactors watch the 2019 show without them really watching much BTS and I always think doing it that way is a mistake. It’s so much better for the reactor if they’re familiar with the songs. Especially for the 2019 show. Excellent, John!

@h.vgavriel58382 жыл бұрын
Iconic performance ! Each time I see it, it's incredible , and what a beautiful construction with this crescendo till the end. The Dyonisos intro is mindblowing ! And Jimin's solo is already a legend ! There is a lot of symbolism in this Dyonisos Intro : First, each member represents a greek god and each one danced to one of their songs: V - Apollo god of sun ( No more dream) JIN - Ares god of war (Danger) (some said it's Athena , goddes of War) SUGA - Hephaestus god of fire ( Fire) JIMIN - Artemis goddes of moon ( I need U) NB : Artemis is the twin of Apollo so it's perfect for the 95ers JHOPE - Zeus god of thunder (Fake Love) JK - Poseidon god of water (Save Me) RM - Dionysus god of wine and art ( Dionysus) The song is about their thirst for art, with which they can't live without in a way Also, maybe have you noticed the seven light bulbs : they represents the Ariadne constellation. The exact positioning of the stars were replicated. Ariadne is Dionysus' wife and for the wedding he gifted her with a crown with 7 jewels. When she died, the crown casted into the sky to be a constellation. The 7 light also représents the 7 members, the 7 years of BTS. And probably the album album Map of the soul 7 : it dropped 2 months later and we know BTS always put some hints of their future albums and songs in their shows ! I have noticed the words "EGO" and "SHADOW" write on the blackboard during RM "Personna", eastern eggs for the 2 songs, main theme of the future album witch are not released at that time; JK's dance in black on water may be a hint for black swan too ; The dance break during Dyonisos was on a remix of N.O ... and announced maybe the release of ON : we know the songs are back to back, they even used the same stairs during MMA 2020 ON than in the N.O MV in 2013. Just my opinion, I may be wrong. 3/ Even the Dionysus dance break is meaningful. The first dancers are J-Hope and Jungkook, Zeus and Poseidon, you can see their battle for control. Then V and Jimin, Apollo and Artemis, mirror each other's movements because they are twin dieties. Lastly, Jin, Suga, and Namjoon (Ares, Hephaestus, Dionysus) are the outcasts of Olympus, hence their fall from the table. There is no coincidences in BTS performances, all is significant. Mindblowing, and significant. You should check MMA 2019 explanation by XCeleste, or by the Bookish theory, I'm sure you will find it very interesting.

Jungkook is the king of ad libs and harmonies lol he does the majority of them especially live… with the vocalists but all the rappers as well.. which is my favorite… something about a rap harmony hits different. The rap line and their live rap energy is second to none imo…. Especially suga… like his off self bc his powerhouse stage presence are two different worlds.. both absolutely incredible regardless tho All of them… the rap line live just hits different Edit: jungkooks live harmony and ad libs are always a treat.. I love that he plays around with them so they’re legit always different.. keeps them fresh imo . His perfect pitch enables just a crazy amount of confidence in how he does it. Jungkooks natural register is much deeper than you’re thinking lol bc jin and jimin tend to sing with higher tones… jk and Tae both sing higher than natural but bc Tae is a baritone and can struggle with stability if higher notes when dancing… so jk ends up with the more higher mid parts. When you hear the vocal line sing live more.. you’ll understand more I’m sure I still really hope you’ll watch “main vocalist jungkook” by Ida s to understand bc it seems to be him you understand the least vocally. Tons of content and it’s a lot to understand and take in for sure so no worries Main vocalist jungkook by Ida s link kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2WYn4hmo6ioiK8

In the Dionysus performance, each member represented a Greek god: V - Apollo, God of the Sun Jin - Ares, God of War ( or Athena, God of Wisdom) Jimin - Artemis, God of the Moon Suga - Hephaestus, God of Fire JK - Poseidon, God of Sea J-Hope - Zeus, God of Thunder RM - Dionysus, God of Wine And the lights that come down before each solo performance make a star constellation, the Corona Borealis, seven stars (for 7 BTS members) that make up the distinctive crown-shaped pattern. In Greek mythology, Corona Borealis was linked to the legend of Theseus and the minotaur. It was generally considered to represent a crown given by Dionysus to Ariadne, the daughter of Minos of Crete, after she had been abandoned by the Athenian prince Theseus. When she wore the crown at her marriage to Dionysus, he placed it in the heavens to commemorate their wedding.

Just a little bit of background, it is not usual for a performance to be this long on these award shows, though BTS are known for their epic performances. BTS had just come off sold out stadiums world tour having accomplished something quite remarkable. The opening song of those shows was Dionysus (there are videos of their entire tour performances on yt). BTS member solos represent gods from the Dionysus mythology, and each detail is significant, even the horses are related to the overall story. The 'lights' that came from the ceiling formed a coronet of stars - a constellation in the sky that Dionysus presented to his wife. Recommend Bookish Theories for details on this performance.
