Me, too! A long-neglected early'60s gem! Where are all the happy, melodic, singable, danceable songs as this one was? Gone the way of the dinosaurs, I guess. "...you wanted to take me to a movie show--I gotta tell you that I just can't go!"

I agree with all the comments about Darlene Love. I think she's the best because she has strength and guts. Having said that, the lead singer of the Shirelles has such a unique and smooth low voice and the same guts with which feeling can not be expressed.

Great 60s r&b number. Fun harmonies, as an alternate to 12-bar blues. Darlene is great!! :)

An example of a superb little song that stands the test of time as a classic, as any song that Darlene Love sings! Still going strong at 73, sung her enduring "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" on David Letterman's show for the last time for him in December.

Darlene Love is now 75. July 26 will be her 76th. In 2021, she celebrated her 80th!

I am a firm believer in "to each their own" however, the one thumbs down for this song hears but does not listen. Maybe... just maybe.... if the individual gave the song a second chance, he/she may like it.

Stefmagura....you are NOT weird at all. I think a LOT of the Girl groups back then (both Black & White) were inspired by by the Andrews Sisters, & other similar sounding Female groups from the 1940's & 1950's. I'm an old guy, so I can pretty much vouch for this theory!

Written by Phil Spector, Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry. Love that exquisite, haunting background at 1:35! Another innocent, fun, and completely enchanting song in the last, truly non-politicized year, before the insiders and war-hawks (they wanted the Vietnam War--not JFK!) crafted a brutal coup d'etat (as they previously did in foreign countries), and not by the patsy. LHO's memorable description of himself, who was not on the 6th floor, and denied any desire for publicity, on that awful Friday night press conference, when asked why he did it. "I didn't shoot anybody, no sir!" That includes officer J.D. Tippit, witnesses described a man as shorter and fatter, not fitting LHOs description!

This song always reminds me of a boy I had a huge crush on in 9th grade Just started high school and this gorgeous creature named Bobby sat in front of me in history class He not only was gorgeous, but a great dresser and very smart He became our class president He didn't even know I was alive!

I loved this cheery sounding song when it came out. I was madly in love with our clas president, Bobby Pisko, a smart and totally gorgeous guy, who didn't know I was alive! I was called the prettiest girl in the neighborhood, but Bobby never noticed me!!!

John F. Kennedy was President of The United States, just 6 months before he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas Texas. The world is not the same back then. This song is in May of 1963.

David, it was *recorded* in May, with her sister Edna Wright on the vocals. Did not get released until late-Summer, peaked at #26 in September. The man you mentioned was not the shooter. Ruby Tuesday had the more accurate idea, along with the insidious, and power-hungry VP, who shot his way to the presidency, after having 7 other men murdered by his hired hitman, Malcolm "Mac" Wallace. The criminal and thoroughly corrupt (and money hungry) VP also had his own sister, Josefa killed (Christmas, 1961), to stop her embarrassing him with her sexual hijinks, and big mouth.

@filthyphillyboy Outside of your music 'fantasy', did you ever meet such a girlfriend?
@wallacegarrett35375 жыл бұрын
Waiting for Bobby to get home, because he might have been Black (the '60 -time period) does not mean he was in jail! (A somewhat racist comment). Many Black Men were in the military during that time period. You know, like Viet Nam! So don't say because she is waiting for Bobby to come home (and he's Black) (Most Black Girls didn't date too many White Guys in the '60.) And to say that he's geting out of prison is kind of racist. Thanks and a tip of the hat for putting up this alternate version. I remember hearing the hit version when I was like 13, just starting to go crazy over girls. I remember thinking how cool it would be to have a girlfriend so faithful that she would wait for you to come home, spurning some other guy's advances, even when she "hasn't got a thing to do" and she's "so lonely and blue". What a woman and what a singer Darlene Love was/is!

@fntime "Outside of your music 'fantasy', did you ever meet such a girlfriend?" Yeah, but of course I didn't appreciate it when it happened & we broke up later. Oh, the ones that got away!
