Believe it or not, Atlantis no Nazo was planned to come out in the US but as a sequel to Super Pitfall of all things.

I'm a big fan of Hebereke! It has such a big, fun world to explore, even if it took me a long time to figure out that you have to press down while jumping to stomp on enemies. I'm also a pretty big fan of Lipple Island and Maharajah; both do have translation patches, and the latter actually has turn-based battles, kind of like a much less grindy Sword of Hope.

Ufouria: The Saga was previewed and reviewed in magazines such as Electronic Gaming Monthly, Nintendo Power, GamePro and VideoGames & Computer Entertainment, in addition to being showcased in playable state to attendees at the 1991 WCES, and planned for a fall 1991 launch before being delayed to early 1992 release, but the North American localization was cancelled after Sunsoft of America did not approve the game due to its quirky character designs. There was also an advert to promote the game in the US, but even then, it became a collector's item and sells for a higher price, thus making it a rare item. Can you beat the best? The ad showed Super Spy Hunter, Batman: The Video Game, the Game Boy Batman: The Video Game, Gremlins 2: The New Batch - The Video Game, the Game Boy Gremlins 2: The New Batch - The Video Game, and U-four-ia: The Saga. David Siller, Sunsoft of America's former vice president of development, claimed that the company's managers felt the game's characters were too "strange or quirky" compared to cartoons by The Walt Disney Company and Warner Brothers, with Gimmick! also suffering the same fate. However, Siller stated that both titles most likely could have been commercial successes late in the NES’ lifespan. It would later be delayed, before getting cancelled sometime around 1993. According to many sources, the game was to be released in 1992, which contradicts previous knowledge that it was to be released in 1991. That game should've been released on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in the U.S. a long time ago. Two prototypes of the game, one of which was the then-lost US prototype, would eventually be found by Armadylo on March 2021. Following this discovery, ROM images for it were released, now debunking its "lost" status. It got a VidPro card made. The screenshots in the ads show slight differences from the European version.

John the only difference between the US and JP Alien Syndromes is the US one credits Tengen instead of Sunsoft and starts on the title screen instead of the cutscene. Otherwise they're the same exact game.

We got both U-Four-Ia and Mr Gimmick here in the Scandinavia region, and I had fun with them... but not super-rarity you pay thousands of kronor-fun. Also, I'd like a video of Barcode Battler, I'm only vaguely aware of the conceot but it seems like such a cool "of it's time" gimmick. It probably costs as heinously much as a cartridge of Mr Gimmick does these days...

Mr. Gimmick BARELY came out in Europe, actually only Scandinavia and in very small quantities. However we did get Ufouria, and I'm glad we did, because it's a cute and well-made game in the style of Metroid but with a group of characters with different abilities. I also own a copy of Atlantis no Nazo, and somehow I like the game, even though it's admittedly not great

It's worth mentioning that Atlantis no Nazo and Ikki were massive hits in Japan, to the point where they're still trying to push them (especially Ikki) one way or another. Ikki is supposedly responsible for the term 'kusoge - crappy game', hahah. Their bad/average games generally sold much better over there, good games like Blaster Master or Batman didn't, so that's what they're generally known for in Japan, funnily enough.

Nantettatte Baseball is actually notable for it's unique cartridge as its one of the few that had it's own cartridge port to expand the game in the case of this baseball game Sunsoft released two stat update cartridges and nowadays those smaller cartridges for this game are considered to be one of the most expensive Famicom related items especially in regards to the second expansion cartridge

Gimmick / Mr. Gimmick is the one that really angers me, I guess... I got myself a AV Famicom console in 2022, with it in mind to be able to collect and play games for it that are notoriously "rare and expensive" on the NES / north american releases (examples like Little Samson and Bonk) - but Gimmick is still extremely expensive, at least for the japanese version... so I ended up getting a flash cartridge for the console, but, I'm glad to know it's available on the Switch (actually looking at the game's wikipedia page now, I didn't realize there are a remake and a remaster in the works, or already out... still cool, either way).
@wakcedout7 ай бұрын
Nintendo of Americas release requirements to prevent saturation of the market is likely the thing the kept many of these games from coming to America. And preventing that saturation you can blame on Atari. Which sucks that to reinvigorate the video game market in America meant we didn’t get all the games Japan and Europe did.
