I remember renting Superman 64 and vomiting at how bad it was, I told my dad it sucked and if we could exchange it and he doubted me thinking maybe it was too hard for me……. after 10min of him playing it we were back at Blockbuster swapping it for Mario Party 2 😤😤

It was a good game! I never understood why internet trolls hate on Superman so much. The difficult trials of flying through rings in the beginning is what most trolls cite… but I was very skilled, so it was easy. And it was meant to train the elite gamers for the tougher trials to come. Modern day games are just movies with occasional button prompts for babies. Veteran gamers from the 64 era like me thrive for the challenge 😉

I remember being with my cousins at EB games when Superman 64 came out and when they got it home it was an instant tragedy. They gave the game to me to keep forever after crying about it for two hours straight. They had spent their last $50 bucks on it and got stuck with the game during the Christmas holiday. I ended up taking the game to the pawnshop and trading it for Zelda Ocarina of Time which I couldn't even believe they even had a copy. I couldn't allow that $50 to go to complete waste and lucky for me the pawn shop wasn't aware of how bad it actually was and guess what. That game is still there at that shop today to nobody's surprise.😮😳😳😳

What's more mind blowing about the Powerpuff girls fighting game is that it came out in late 2001. The PS2 was already out for nearly 2 years and both the GameCube and Xbox were just launched at the time and worst of all, it was the last non-sport game on the N64. Yeah, I count Tony Hawk Pro Skater as a sports game. The N64 could've ended on a sour note if there weren't a couple more games after the Powerpuff girls

For the record, according to Tommy Dreamer. ECW chose the acclaim because they needed the money from licensing the ECW name and Acclaim was ready. There was another potential bidder for ECW which was DMA Designs but they were banking on the success on GTA before they would invest into an ECW game which was too late for ECW. You can find out more on the Hard4Games video on the ECW game's prototype.

There's some very surreal pictures out there surrounding that ECW game. Acclaim was also producing an Olsen twins game at the same time, which resulted in them promoting both games at the same time at E3 -- and some very awkward pictures being taken featuring the Olsen twins standing next to ECW wrestlers.

I was still in middle school when Earthworm Jim 3D released. It was my first experience going in a game with high expectation only to feel jaded, despite only being a rental. The boss fights are not only unfair, but they repeat with different characters. I only made past the second boss (somehow) and asked myself why I was still playing it. I even went out of my way to write an article on how dreadful it was as a late N64 release. Surprised it even got a PC release after the development hell I went through.

Is it just me or did Nintendo 64 Graphics overall age poorly? Because I've gone back and played some of the grapes the system had to offer like Perfect Dark unimulators and they just look like tushy not very fun to play and I love old school Graphics as much as the next guy in fact I love 8-bit and 16-bit Graphics even to this day I still look back at the games from back then in Marvel at the graphics. But for the most part when it comes to Nintendo 64 I don't recall there being a lot of great looking games on there. But I will say I played the Conker's Bad Fur Day through emulator and it was freaking gorgeous for an N64 game and even just for a 3D game in general. That's the cream of a crop game right there
@SlavaPunta
@SlavaPunta Жыл бұрын
100% agree. I've concluded that the N64 and PS1 is peak "uncanny valley" for game systems. The hardware was certainly the most powerful to date, but not ready for what they were trying to do (and well behind what PCs were doing at the time). The crisp and polished 2D sprites of the NES and more SNES just feel right. But those blocky first attempts of 3D characters / environments and slower frame rates have not aged well. It wasn't until we hit late PS2 and into PS3 where modern console gaming came into its own. Link to the Past (SNES) = still perfect Metal Gear Solid (PS1) = dear god how did I even play this??? It's the era with the largest gap between game design vs hardware supporting it.... for lack of a better way to say it.

I find it a little funny that there's recently been a resurgence in the indie market for games in the style of N64 / PS1... but primarily in horror games. Because that kinda makes sense, don't it? The worlds these early 3D consoles drew up looked like fever-induced nightmares, so what better genre to really examine that style than horror games? Well, that and platforners who use the colorful abstract style to draw up worlds that also look bizarre, but not in a spooky way. So yeah- horror games than can push the uncanny polygon-worlds to the extreme, and bright, wacky blocky cartoon-platformers. That seems to be what game developera want to do with this style. But racing games or realistic games... no. They've left this style faaar behind.

Backstage assault wasnt the worst wrestling game ever. Is more of a hate meme, is repeated so much that its so bad that people have just accepted it's the worst game ever due to it being said so much. It wasnt a great game, but was at least something different and kinda fun as a novelty. Worth getting cheap Nitro was actually bad an unplayable. Definitely worse than backstage assault

@@moogibeans9822 Between ECW and Backstage Assault, I'd argue that ECW is still better. It, at the very least, was as playable as the other WWF Acclaim games of the time. Assault was both weird in concept and clunky in gameplay. Honestly (despite owning it) I've yet to touch Nitro. May need to try it soon lol.

@@s-familystudios1574 Backstage assault was crazy clunky, definitely wouldnt say its a great game :p Would definitely agree that the acclaim engine games are better. They get much too much hate these days imo Nitro is bad :p Even after learning the button commands for moves, youll struggle to even pull them off. Theres alot I still like about the game, but it qualifies as a legitimate bad game imo :p

The N64 has been relevant since it came out. And Clay fighter 63 and a third is a great fighting game.
