Your title says a "THERMOSTAT" replacement. So I wasted 19 minutes to find out there is absolutely nothing about a thermostat!

@@albabmg Thank you for your reply. I do understand that you make these videos to help people but you also make them for the same reason everybody does, to attract views and subscribers for you to make a profit. As you should if you're providing something beneficial, which you are. But there are way too many videos that mislead people by claiming on the title something that isnt in the video and in this case your title is definitely misleading. Sure in part 2 there is, then again why is there a part 2 when it could all be in one video. If I had the same engine and year etc which I dont its probably a useful video but its annoying when you're looking for something specific and you spend the time looking for it based on the title and its not there. Maybe you should update the title or combine the two parts. I appreciate your reply.

@@bongo042 Thanks again for your input. I think naming the videos parts 1 and 2 is pretty clear and reasonable. If you make these videos too long people tend not to watch. I make these videos purely because I enjoy it and like to help others. I have never made any financial gain from my videos nor do I intend to. My channel is not monetised. I got a 2005 15 Johnson 4 Stroke No water pump whatever I do Any ideas?

Not sure why your motor is not pumping. You need to check the pump as well as the thermostat and also check for any blockages within the system. Sometimes the plastic water outlet nozzle can also become blocked. Cheers

Is your motor an electric start? Mines a 2005 9.9 4stroke. I want to turn mine into an electric start because i see spot where a starter will be and the other wires that is not connected to anything. So im thinking it would be for that. Also if i change the carburetor to a 15hp carb will it be a 15hp. Sorry might be a dumb question but i seen some videos of some turning there 9.9 to a 10 or 15 by just changing that. But not a johnson motor that i watched. Could you make video of the motor with the top cover off

My Motor is a pull start. If you have a look at both Parts 1 & 2 you will see some video with the covers off. You won't change the capacity of your engine by changing the carb. You can certainly get more power from your engine with a different carb arrangement, but I have no experience with that. Cheers

Thank you for the details about the shift linkage. Two questions: 1) did the drive shaft carry an o-ring in the upper part, near the middle of the splines section? 2) why did you work with the motor in vertical position? Is there any specific reason for not tilting it?

Hi There was no 'O' ring on the shaft splines. I coated the splines with Marine grease prior to re installation. Working in the vertical position was easier for me as the weight of the gear case aided in removal. Hope this helps. Cheers

Can I ask how you like the plastic cavitation plate you have on this motor? I have one but have not installed it yet.

Do the intakes get stopped up a lot and does mud and sand built up in the bottom of the lower? Seems if you don't clean them out you are just looking for trouble. Am I correct?

It's not so much sand and mud that cause restrictions in the water intake. The main problem for me is salt water. I use my boat mainly in salt water estuaries and even though I flush the system with fresh water there is still a build up of salt and its reaction with the outboard components. I would recommend pulling the engine apart every 1 to 2 years and giving the engine a good clean and new water pump. Cheers

@@albabmg I noticed an extra o ring in my water pump kit, and I re watched you video and I didn't see it with your install. I have a 2000 15 hp Johnson, so maybe it's for another model? I just don't want to reinstall the pump neglecting that o ring but if it's not there, then I a ready to go.

@@albabmg Thanks for your great info. I noticed that my shifter rod was bent a bet, and I am having a problem getting it to line up. Is that bend a normal thing in the shifter linkage rod?

@@JLH1956 My shifter link rod was not bent. It is quite difficult though to reconnect. I had to move the gear shift lever into gear (reverse from memory)to drop the link rod so that I could line up the bolt. Get someone to hold the gear shift so that it doesn't move back to neutral when you are trying to get the bolt back in, this should help. Cheers

Hi there, it seems your engine is slightly newer than mine, as mine is a 1999 2 stroke model. Any chance you know if the kit you bought will work for that one as well? Also where did you buy that kit? Seems to be exactly what I need. Thanks for the video!

Good clear helpful video/s. Thanks for uploading. One thing maybe worth mentioning for others is. ... be mega careful not to strip the threads on the shift rod connection clamp. The temptation to pry the clamp open a bit for easier rod reinstallation is real. Don't because then the screw wont exactly align into the softer thread of the clamp. Also the beveled out section of the rod rides on the screw and can wear the thread over time. Plus if its had previous pump impeller replacements the clamp thread is likely to be a bit worn. I replaced that screw with one slightly longer and used a nut & loctite on the other side of the clamp. Better safe than stuck 5km out in neutral. All the best!

Thank you so much for posting this video. Any idea why it stopped pumping water as the old impeller looked fine to me. Possibly the thermostat?

Initially it stopped pumping because of a blockage so decided to take it all apart and replace the impeller and thermostat also decided to remove head to have a look at the water jackets. There was a fair amount of muck in there. Managed to clear it all out and give it a good clean. All good now though. You are correct there wasn't much wrong with the pump but replaced it anyway. The thermostat was a bit corroded. Cheers Brian
