Hi Kodi, Yep old plastic wears out and cracks. Hardly any plastic on the older motors which I like. The 57 mark 10 I have, been trying to find some info on and finally found it. Kiekenhaufer has a website for all its old motors for service manuals. $4.95 to buy the PDF file so it's on your phone or where ever you want it and print off copies. Has the specs and torques I need. Going to share the link on my next video on the mark 10 for anyone who is interested.

And, I agree with you, Kodi; yes, it is plastic and it (the primer nipple) is broken (like so much else on this motor). But, how did it get broken??? Was somebody under the cowling beating everything with a hammer? These plastic primers have been on motors since 1984. Never have I had a broken nipple off a plastic primer body. Actually, I did see one that someone else had broken. One. This is an amazing repair job you are having to fix. "Bubba" must have owned this motor.........

Would the nylon degrade fast in climates that have severe temp changes from winter to summer? Could this have been up north from you for a period of years, under the hood didn’t look like it had been exposed to the elements directly for years and years. Maybe cleaning products like starter fluid or the like being sprayed on the areas? Just trying to think of things that would speed up the aging process. That 55 would be a great work horse down here in Louisiana!!!!! Would you have any jack plates that may be out in the bone piles?

What differences do the "commercial" outboards have, other than slightly different horsepower ratings?

Beefer crankshafts, drive shafts, prop shafts etc. A 55 com. is a 70 hp minus one cylinder. kodi

Run a fully modified 55 seahorse with a L50 jet here in Juneau on a 16 ft seaark...they r work horses. Great stuff Cody! You are the hack from Kodiak!!

Oh, how do you get out an old stuck jet on a carb to replace it? There is nothing left on the slot to use a screwdriver. Just leaving it for now since it's works fine still

You would have to drill it out real careful and rethread the hole for a new one a pain in the neck been there it’s a pain

As Sam says drilling is about all U can try, I have had some luck using a counter rotating drill bit set. kodi

Love the videos, i have an 89/90 commercial series engine with a whole host of problems, im trying to source a manual online but cant find the serial number anywhere, its not in the usual places, any ideas where i may find somewhere to download maybe as engine driving me nuts. Its only really pushing the boat full throttle, and the speeds are anything from 8-18kts

I do, However all the carburetors I have are from salt water only engines & would 4 sure need rebuilding. But I do have them. kodi
