Let me start with a well done as always you rock! Love your approach and talent! It would be tragic to have an accident on the water. As an oceanographer with tens of thousands of hours on the water I have one word of advise: " LIFEJACKET" OF SOME SORT! PFD, Type 2, 3 or 4. Type 2 looks best for what you do. Looks like you spend time on fresh water where people sink faster than salt water. It looks like you spend alone time as well , we all need that. It is only because I value your contribution and your knowledge that I take licence to give a fellow mariner advive. I say this very respectfylly sir. One accident is one too many. Keep the videos coming!

Really good video. I’m getting my 9.9 mercury 4 stroke installed on my 21ft trophy. It has a 150 optimax mercury 2 stroke. I love my boat. Just want it a kicker for back up and for trolling. My engine alarmed kick a few times as I was deep off shore 20 miles fishing. I was super nervous and was afraid of driving the engine back to the docks with an diagnostic error. My fishing trip was over ones that alarm sounded. I drove back not carrying if the engine broke as longest we got close to shore. Everything was good. My oil was low on the reservoir main tank due to plug filter. Anyways I decided to add a kicker for several reasons. Good installation and test drive.

I have same kicker motor. My kicker bracket is a different model and it has 4 large holes at back of mounting pad. When I tightened thumb screws, one of them sunk into the hole which twisted motor slightly and as I tightened it snapped motor transom bracket in half! Had to replace with one off a different motor and I turned kicker bracket around so smooth flat side is to front of boat. I like the thru bolt idea! Gona do that for sure.

Assuming that ok StarCraft is set up the same way as my old boat looks to be be the same.... You tank for inboard still on the left side was pondering move battery the left side to compensate for the weight when I get mine installed.

My 18 gallon tank is on the left same as the kicker and battery on the right. My boat sits in the water flat.

Good video...I have the same kicker on a different bracket. I find mine difficult to raise so I think it is undersized for the motor. How easy is it to raise your bracket from inside the boat? Thanks.

I connected my outboard and trolling motor with a 3/4 inch PVC pipe. Had to make a "V" mount on the big motor housing to solve pro lems with leverage and travel. Was that a 4 stroke or 2 stroke? Nice and quiet

Your other video (9.9hp/15hp with a big secret) you said the bottom of the boat should line up with the other cavitation plate, now you are pointing out (4:13) the correct one.

I agree you don't need a connector bar between the two engines IF the aux engine is locked in one position. Can you comment if the kicker is able to be locked straight ahead, or if it simply is not prone to steering drift?
@Michaelsbackyardmarina3 жыл бұрын
I tightened up the adjustment so the steering is tight. I just point it straight and then I use my outdrive as a rudder. Works fantastic.

No prob when you can put country nyt from inside. A bit more challaging when only entry from outside. No one shows that.

When the kicker motor is running position, how much clearance room is between the lower unit and transom?

It's running below the bottom where it should run as if it were on a normal boat.

I’m thinking about using this for primary motor lift as in a way to pull the motor out of the water on a jon boat...would this be good for the application?
@Michaelsbackyardmarina4 жыл бұрын
it certainly is a sturdy mount. I would say you may get away with it. Why wouldn't you just use the tilt on the motor for taking the motor out of the water.

@ 9:18 you hit a lever, and tilted the motor. What is the purpose of the tilt feature ? I am asking because my kicker is in lowest position and feels jammed. I am wondering if the tilt feature can be used to keep the motor out of the water while in the slip ? Rather than fighting with the stiff kicker.
@Michaelsbackyardmarina3 жыл бұрын
This lever serves a couple purposes. 1, yes to be able to lock the motor up for transport, I prefer to use a transom saver. 2, unlock for use in uncertain water so it can kick up, use this in slower moving conditions. 3, locks it down for reverse. Choose wisely as to how you use it.
@pkg29223 жыл бұрын
I see that you used a level on the bracket, but how did you determine that the transom boat itself was leveled?

I put a level on it too.

On a 25ft boat there should be a metal tag on the inside of the boat that will show the horse power limit for the boat. I can not make a horse power recommendation for a boat.
