I have a question the black plane in the back ground, on the engine cowl there are raised silver bulges. I have always wondered what they are there for is it something to do with increasing air speed

Those bumps on the engine cowl literally house the rocker caps which sit inside those blisters. This allows the cowl to made smaller in diameter. This is supposed to reduce drag. But frankly I think they just look cool!
