Thanks for posting. I’ve seen the incline every summer as my parents would drive through Johnstown on our way to visit relatives in Western Pa. I’ve never been on it. You look like Bill Cowher, former Steelers coach.

Glad you enjoyed it! Well… coach Cowher must have big nose! But thanks for watching and commenting. We appreciate it greatly. Loved the incline and the area.

Thank you so, so, so much for this video. I live 45 minutes from johnstown and always wanted to experience the inclined plane but never did but now I did thanks to you guys. I thank you. Absolutely beautiful. I passed the inclined plane hundreds of times and I always wondered what it would be like to go up. Thank you. People like you guys are just wonderful!

What a wonderful comment for us to read. So glad we inspired you to experience the incline plane for yourself. We are also guilty of not exploring the things that are in our own back yards.

That is such a fun ride. And the view from the observation deck at the top is stunning. There is a fantastic series of hiking trails that I am in the process of rehabilitating right now at the Inclined Plane. They run from the base the whole way to the top. There's also a spur off to the right of the tracks that is known as the James Wolfe Sculpture trail. In in 1989 James Wolfe took steel from the local mills and created sculptures to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the 1889 flood. That trail runs about 1/2 mile and passes the Rolling Mill mine entrance where one of the worst mine disasters in US history occurred. That hillside is a gem! Great video!

During WW2 I lived with my Grandparents in Southmont. I made Grandpa take me up and down this thing weekly. Always stopped at Sealtest for peach ice cream. Still looks like fun.

@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Well next time you get up there you will have to hit them PLUS Flight 93 which is only about 35 minutes away and the Sipesville site where the miners were trapped for a week. It is only about 20 minutes from Flight 93....very historic area that many do not know about....then 45 minutes away you have Ft.Bedford from the French and Indian days and the Bedford Historic Village.

the fact that it only costs $8 (INCLUDING the driver) to drive your car on and get hauled up the hill blew my mind when i first discovered the JIP...can't wait for the renovation and pandemic drama to wrap up so they can reopen this thing because it is so cool and i NEED to ride it!

Paul Mentzer There were other Vehicle inclines but all closed. This includes the following closed inclines in Pitrsburgh: 1. The Knoxville incline, closed in 1960, 2. The Castle Shannon Incline, closed in 1964, 3. The Penn Avenue Incline, closed in 1954, and 4. The Mongahelia Vehicular incline, closed in 1935. The last one was next to the existing Mongohelia Passenger incline, which still survives and is the Steepest incline in the US, beating out the Johnstown Incline by a small percentage of grade. Please note the Chattanooga incline also claims to be the Steepest, but only its last section is steeper then both the Mongahelia and Johnstown Inclines,

Johnstown was once a booming steel city that peaked with a population of 67,000,in the 2020 census the population was 18,500,housing there is cheap though.

The Johnstown Flood (of 1889) produced the greatest loss of American life (non war) until the Islamic terrorist attacks of 9/11. There is an excellent Museum there, too.
