The long-awaited Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link between Johor Bahru and Singapore is taking shape. A significant construction milestone was reached at the end of December 2023, with the completion of a 17.1m-long concrete span connecting the Singapore and Malaysian ends of a rail viaduct. ST breaks down the RTS Link by the numbers. READ MORE: str.sg/DEPQ

That's good for businesses in JB because more customers with high purchasing power. Those Malaysians who can't afford buying property in JB can stay in Skudai or Kulai instead.

Everyday Singaporeans will stand to lose more when this RTS project is up and ready as more Malaysians will have much better access to work in Singapore and will spend the money in Malaysia. Plus Singaporeans may spend more in Malaysia due to higher cost of living in SG. So its a lose lose for Singaporeans but BIG gain for the elites in Singapore who owns the big businesses or politics of the country. More locals in SG may lose their business and jobs to Malaysia while JB will be a very expensive place like SG. Its the same scenario when USA open up the Free Trade Agreement to China and USA have more to lose in the long run while China stands to gain so much as you see now.

They have an interesting way to do this. The custom clearance for both countries will be on the same side. So if you are going from SG to JB, the SG and MY custom will be both on the SG side, and vice versa. This should help reduce the delay of boarding, alighting each time to clear custom. As for capacity and speed of clearance, I can only hope that both sides will allow both countries' passport to use their automated gates.

Grateful. Finally, good progress and seeing success for Malaysia. Malaysians especially Johoreans should give thanks to PM Anwar who finally help to shed light bringing some hope for the Country's economy. Of course, must be grateful to both Johor Sultan and Crown Prince for the great push and assistance to realise this mega project. Its good for the Malaysia nations and bring them hope of economy improvement and job placements. Dun dwell on high pricing properties in JB, Johor has plentiful of undeveloped lands and forests, everywhere, can build and can be homes. No need to stay within town areas with all noise pollutions. Most importantly, each developments infrastructures, security and living environment is conducive, each nation has a secured job, a secured roof and everybody is happy. I am thankful to all these shaping up and excited for Malaysia especially Johor. Once again, thank you PM Anwar, thank you Johor Sultan and thank you Crown Prince. Johor is beaming under yours leadership. terima kasih.

80 km/hour? Why don't use HSR and expand the network imigration checkpoints to ease travel delay?
@araara4746
@araara4746 7 ай бұрын
The track is too short to use HSR, because the train will arrive before it reaches a speed above 100 km/h. Acceleration from 0 km to over 100 km usually takes 7 minutes, while the crossing only takes 5 minutes at a speed of 80 km/h.

woodlands will be jam packed with people, boomers will lose out if they rent out to malaysians who will move back or buy a property in jb areas. some businesses will see a decrease in volume as more Singaporeans/pr flock to jb, lower income Singaporeans will fight for jobs with more malaysians coming to singapore for work due to the currency difference. the influx of Singaporeans and prs push up the prices in jb forcing more Malaysians to come to singapore to look for work. the cycle will reinforce itself as more and more people travel to jb to take advantage of the lower prices which may not stay low any longer. if economy of malaysia grows substantially, ringgit will appreciate against singapore dollars although not by much. uninformed Singaporeans will blindly buy severely overpriced and loss making properties in johor renting out at a loss compared to their malaysia counterparts. the rts will solve the manpower issue of singapore businesses but will worsen the situation in jb. do pause and think it over why are there so many homewoners of popular developments selling now if the rts is going to be ready in 3 years time.

I HV this comment..apart from political correctness like those projects done years ago..example GCT golden triangle... surely the costs of this project is very substantial...iskander like? Wonder can the charges levied over next v10 years pay for total capital expenditure n maintenance? Malaysians because of strong ,s$ will they come shop.. stay in hotel..when they HV a much cheaper option in their country n the other neighbors. Majority of Malaysia NS are here to work in the day mainly motorcycle transport. Would the daily train fares cheaper than a motorcycle ride across? Singapore and going across yes during holidays the jam. Because it is cheaper for a family of more than 4 to spend 3;days there n buy half a week of provisions from Malaysia. A car is the best option as u can buy car full..not carrying..fill petrol at cheap prices..go around all places that trains cannot. Singaporeans with property there many own cars..as they can even afford a COE paper paying $166k. Train for them? Yes visitors here on short stay...but still a chartered limousine is fast enough for them esp older folks

Billion dollar global insight for movie, anime, real life or thesis - with current advancement of technology and weapons, (decades after atomic bomb), a short sea “gap” between Malaysia and Singapore won’t make much of a difference in war. In 8,888 years time, why not max out the profits for both Malaysia government, royalties and Singapore government with win win benefits to citizens of both countries by landfill the sea between Singapore and Malaysia at the land immigration causeway? Singapore landfill its side of the sea boundary. Malaysia landfill its side of the sea boundary. If you look at other countries, there are many different nations, e.g. in Europe who exist on a single piece of land mass. This allow millions of wealthy VVIPs, VIPs, corporate bosses, military management, police management and average citizens to quickly drive their cars from Singapore to Malaysia to evacuate in the event of natural disasters. Use China dam building technology to stop and drain out the sea (both sides) to prep for the landfill to cut costs
