As someone who lives Central Ontario I am shocked at the great condition those cars are in. Repaired, every one of them would sell in the $5-7,000 range. A lot if work can be done and still not upside down on value. It is a shame that useful cars are destroyed. Terrible for the environment.

Same here from Australia. But the annual inspection over there is so strict with high standards. It includes emissions testing also. For whatever reason second hand cars in the uk are a lot cheaper than here.

You'll noticed that what's being scrapped isn't Japanese or Korean cars. You have more better quality cars in Canada and Australia.

The cars in uk when they say “scrapped”, doesn’t always mean crushing, as there are different types of scrap, as there are cars that get scrapped but actually get sold on through suction that are still classed as repairable n rd worthy

The Insignia was 14 years old! I remember our one, we got rid of it in 2019, it was 2012 registered with 149000 miles on it.

I loved my 106 diesel. The fuel gauge didn't work but it didn't matter. Ran almost forever on a full tank 😂

I thought that was ATF you had for the steering as if I remember rightly we use it to fill up the gearboxes on whatever make of bus 🚍 i’d be working on that day as it also went in the Mercedes 709D when we last had that make of bus around 15-20 years ago we got of the last ones which I was sorry to see go as the 709D were brilliant to work on same with the Volvo B10M which I’ve mentioned a few times in the past Kev. 😂🤣

Miss the actual driving that you used to show. It still looks dangerous when you stand on the top of the trailer. That 106 sounded like it was being tortured! I’m convinced the poor C3 could have been repairing. When you pick up 18 plate cars that the engine has gone boom on is worrying

Great video kev and good to see a longer one👌👌possibly a silly question but when you load the top deck then lift it up to strap the cars down is there a safety mechanism to stop the top deck from hydraulic failing and falling on you?shame on your tyre but like you said sometimes you have no choice on going up curbs etc,every now and then I go onto the trent Website to get a scrap collection price but this morning it's at £111 where as a month ago it was £267😮😮think the discovery is💀💀😂😂,cheers kev👍

The decks have locks to stop it falling, have to push a button to hold them off to lower the decks, the clicking noise you here when they decks go up are the locks

What does this 6 weekly inspection include? Is it mandatory from the goverment for road safety or is it a scania service thing?

Regular safety inspections are part of the requirements for the O licence, needed to operate lorries from the Government, every 6 weeks is the standard that most use, but can be up to every 12 if wanted on lightly used vehicles or more often if wanted. It is basically like a mini MOT, checking the condition of brakes, steering etc making sure it is safe, if anything comes up usually gets done before back out of road or booked in to get sorted soon

No, because the Vehicles are classed as not fit for purpose and we have a waste carriers licence 👍

Probably a stupid question but is it classed as a trailer when you are pulling a vehicle on the back or can you do it with a class2 license

It's a bit of a gray area and there's nothing officially stating either way but all our drivers are class 1 to cover ourselves 👍

Spec lifts are a very grey area, the car on is is technically classed as a trailer, and if it is for recovery purposes there is an exemption from the over 750kg rule requiring brakes. The bit that makes it a grey area is they don't really define very well the recovery and how that applies to the salvage side of things, can be argued either way if its recovery or not. 100% need a class 1 for it, used to get away with it on class 2 but they don't really let that slide any more

@@SquireDAF Yep agree totally 👍 As for what qualifies for the exemption, the court case involving HBC with an accident damaged car on the spec, the court ruled against the police and broken down means any vehicle not fit for purpose falls under the exemption, meaning it could be accident damaged, non runner, no mot, or disposal, all fall under the exemption. Copy & paste from the article... It was found that the prosecution were wrong in their submission that a broken down vehicle did not include an accident damaged vehicle. The definition of broken down or disabled being that which is unfit for action or use. ​@@KevTee Yeah read that article as well so its legit for most work that gets done. Pretty sure that powers that be, don't tend to worry to much about the spec lifts on lorries as the weight of the car is not going to cause any undue issues with braking etc on the lorry as they are more than capable of handling it, and what ever is on the spec isn't something that should definitely be on the body they are happy. My lorry is a 7 car (just a lot older) but not used spec on it yet, only had class 1 a few weeks and not needed to use it for job have been on, so really not looking forward to the reversing of it, it looked a real pain with that Insignia! thanks for showing it though, I have picked up so many tips and tricks watching your videos that have helped in the job!
