This is a great way to fertilize vandas and other orchids especially for those that grow their orchids outdoors and would like to conserve time. I have used this method for about 3 years with outstanding blooming results. I have several videos on this where I show updates and results of using this method. Wishing you the best of luck and I am sure you will be thrilled! HAPPY GROWING!

I’m soooo happy that you demonstrated how you “box” up your Vandas. I have all of mine bare-root right now, but because I live in an area with a similar climate to yours, and I have to literally water them twice daily, and I have old knee-high nylons that I use for my Osmocote fertilizer that I tie on the hook up above my Vandas. The only difference is that I cut the plastic basket off of the root system as soon as I buy the plants, so the roots actually start to go straight down, so I’ll have to soak them for a while to get them to become soft enough to curl up into my baskets. I also just have a big old spool of wire that I use to make hooks for all of my clay pots, my Vanda hooks, my stakes to hold up my flower spikes, and I’ll try that to make my hooks to hold my Vanda basket up too. Great video as always!!!!

Hi Danny, I enjoyed this video, especially because I am seeing Miracle Grow, a product I know very well. I used it in my gardens, for more than 40 yrs with superior results. Miracle Grow was invented by Otto Stern in 1940, for use in his own gardens, both flowers and veggies, in Geneva New York. I had the honor of meeting Mr. Stern. it was a local product for years, but as it's wonderful results became known, sales grew across the country. Eventually, the Stern family sold to Scotts. You won't be sorry with the results. Thank you for educating us, daily. Love the gorgeous orange blooms. Great show!

Glad to see that you made a video of this. I did the same thing, i.e. purchased a size too large. But, I was able to sew three seams - two vertically (and separated so I could cut them free when finished) from the bottom of the bag for about 1.5 inches. I filled those two areas with fertilizer. Then sewed a seam to close them. (It made like two small fertilizer pillows.) Then I sewed a horizontal seam across the bottom of the remaining bag. Cut in two places. I had one hanging bag and two fertilizer pillows. I use the pillows on my potted orchids and the hanging bag on the Vandas. This works well for me in south FL USA summers. I water the mounted orchids and the Vandas twice a day in our heat/humidity. I don't want to have to deal with separate fertilizing sessions during this hot time of year. The bags are good for 6 months so I can resume my fertilizing regimen with MSU and CalMag in the fall. (I toss out the fertilizer bags/pillows at that time as they are good for 6 months. And, the bags are really cheap on Amazon.) Hope that my description of what I do makes sense. (My plants are in an outdoor shade cloth covered lanai.)

Having just purchased 2 vandas (not owning them before) this is extremely useful for me. now I am able to fertilize them without adding fertilizer to my basin.

Living in apartment, I cannot water like you... jealous! Thank you for the tip on how to bend vanda’s roots! I wish I watched this when I try to fit it in a basket...😭 I snapped a couple roots and gave it a set back... it is ok now and finally started shooting new root after 4 months in.

More great information again. I have one baby Bands since April. She's doing well so far, but I know it's along way before she reaches the size of yours, but watching her grow is part of the fun of growing them. 😍

Hi Danny. Gosh what a beautiful sunrise. Just started on Vandas recently and doing great with my Patchara bare rooted with daily 12 hour soak. Purple tips all over and even on some of the aerial roots have new roots tips popping out. If it ain’t broke ?? Would love to see how you progress and sounds like great ideas too to have in an arsenal of weapons or ideas to care for our pets (?). Now if only I can get it to roll over 🧐. Agave, hi fructose syrup -bad idea. Sisal -good idea Tequila -great idea Soaking Vanda roots, best idea.

Look for coconut fiber at your local PetCo/PetSmart. lol However, I see that you may not have the same type stores as we have in the USA. For us it's used for reptile bedding. It's in the big blocks. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!

I’m curious Danny, why you kept the plastic basket in? I’ve recently look the basket off a recent purchase. I’m glad I did. I found a nest of snails within the mass of roots.

Danny, Can you do an update on your fertilizer pouch technique? Is it working for the vandas? I was going to put a pouch of fertilizer on my vanda, but I was told that it could burn the leafs, so I'm going to wait for an update from your channel.

I don't have any vandas because I thought the climate in my country and light coming through my windows are not suitable for them Still I envy the people having them 4 feet tall with spectacular flowers! About the satchels I saw them before on phals' keikis to make roots quickly. I'm not a fan of solid fertilizers and sticks.

Funny, I have complitely opposite set up :D my vandas live in glass vases, without any medium. I tried coconut husk, but I got bad allergic reaction from it.

How are you avoiding stem rot? Are you relying on heat of the day and wind movement alone? Do you only water in the early morning?

Is it safe to put the osmocote in the media itself? I just for a vanda for the first time so I’m kinda scared to fertilize her or any of my orchids

Hi, I used to water my Vanda the way you did, bit soon it had crown rotting and the top leaves just came of the plant. Slowly plant died. Please suggest how to deal with this situation? Is it necessary to wet the leaves too or only dipping roots in fertilised solution is enough once a day in humid environment.

Hi, crown rot is caused by bacteria accumulating in pools of water in the crown. It is generally not advisable to let water enter the crown, or leaf joints, in home conditions, or when temperatures are not hot, or conditions are not windy. Here is my crown rot routine, hope it helps kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3S9iaVofcyFeK8 from now just wet the roots of the vanda, here is my tutorial kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH26ZYScbKh6pMU good luck!

My request for a video isn’t really related to this vids topic but I wanted to get the better chance for you to see it. I’ve been watching you for years! From my time living in Finland to being back in the USA. Most of my orchids are in semi hydro. The High PH has finally caught up to me and my plants :/. I’ve watched all the videos you have on the subject but I’m still left confused to what you are CURRENTLY doing to keep the PH level below 8-7.5. As far as I can see the Peat Experiment is Over-video is the latest. It still left me confused to how your controlling the PH from climbing. I’m gonna pull my hair out if I have to keep adjusting the PH of my plants multiple times a week because it’s climbs. Thank you so much! Any guidance would be helpful. I just want the numbers to stay below 7
