Corrour train station is the highest mainline station in the UK. It's also one of the most stunning, unique places we have ever been. We spent a very enjoyable 6 hours in and around here on Saturday 17th July 2021. Join us as we hop on a train from Crianlarich to Corrour and then go for a walk up a mountain made famous by a certain Scottish movie! Would the weather stay on our side?

The reason there's "nothing there" is because it was originally intended as a simple passing loop with a signal box, and a building for signalman's accommodation, to break up the long single-track section between Rannoch and Tulloch, it was originally to be called Luibruaridh, which is the name of the locality, but it became useful for the Corrour Estate some miles away, as the signal box had the only telephone communication with the outside world, and it grew from there...

Steve - when I was a teenager, I read "Kidnapped", and found out from an uncle that our ancestors came from the Highlands. I got obsessed with "romantic" Scotland - kilts, clans, Bonnie Prince Charlie, all that. (I *did* later start learning more about Scotland's non-romaticized history, like the Great Disruption, the Highland Clearances, Red Clydeside and such). Seeing your videos reminds me that places like Mull or Barra or Lismore aren't just names out of a Walter Scott novel, but real, living communities that have a future, as well as a past. Thanks for your great channel!

Hi, Steve and Alicja, ‘Corrour’ Station looked rather familiar, I am sure it was included on one of our many excursions from ‘Kingussie! Where we stayed for many years, they had a lovely little train station also, ‘Corrour’ certainly is in a remote location, with the cutest station like you say Steve, the rocky terrain looked rather hard going, but the views are spectacular, when you reached the summit and the mist came down and the wind started howling, you could have Been in an episode of ‘Wuthering Heights’ it was very atmospheric! at least Alicja got her wish, those Toasties looked delicious 😋 thank you for another successful and enjoyable find Steve, happy hiking 🤗👋

As you say Steve it was a delightful little station and great little hike! Have been racking my brains where we were going to pass it! maybe ‘Mallaig’ we had many wonderful excursions from ‘Kingussie’ the “Duke of Gordon” where we stayed had wonderful panoramic views, and walking trails, I don’t know how we managed to cover some of them as my husband was in the early stages of Parkinson’s, if he had ever fallen we could still be there!🥺 no mobile phones for us, look forward to your next adventure, not sure Alicja was impressed with your subtle hint that your Birthday is approaching! how about another visit to slate island for a swim 🏊 I often wonder if you made it on her Birthday!🤗👋

That was a great day out. I felt like I wanted to run and jump on a train, especially when you went round the great horseshoe, and seeing the train leave Corrour with wilderness all over the place. Congrats on getting up the mountain, and those toasties looked inviting. I wonder why the station was built in the first place? Not just for tourists, I'm sure. Here's a bit of info: As the eagle flies, from Corrour to Fort William station it's only 15 miles. But because of the Nevis range being in the way, the train has to go a distance of 27 miles between the two stations! Thanks for posting, Steve. 👍😁

Just got back from a week on Arran and catching up on your videos Steve. We would have welcomed some of the windy weather you encountered up there as it would have blown away the midges and clegs that plagued us during a heat wave on Arran. I’ve been through Corrour on the train but never got out there so thanks to both of you for a very enjoyable watch 👍

If you freeze the frame at 9.36 you can see straight down Loch Ossian towards Ben Alder. You can see the pass I took last May on my way back to Dalwhinnie. There are some great cross country paths in that area and Bothies as well.

Thanks for all your videos Steve from Melbourne (The lockdown capital of Australia)! Particularly enjoyed this one maybe due to the remoteness of where you went. Been to Scotland a couple of times and if I ever get there again, Corrour Station is on the bucket list

Back in the 90s I used to travel regularly on the rail line from Tyndrum to Corrour Station and did many walks across the whole Rannoch Moor area - I thought it was a truly beautiful and remote spot (though it looks much busier now). I recall one of the well-known sites was the 'sunbathing teddy bear'... No, seriously.... I think it was on the eastbound side of the track between Rannoch Station and Corrour Station as you headed north. Right in the middle of the wilderness someone had placed a child's deckchair and a sun umbrella and a toy teddy bear with sunglasses sitting as if sunbathing. It became something to look out for as you traveled north on the train. I guess more than two decades of weather will have blown it away...

Great video Steve....what gorgeous scenery....of course, the wind reminds me of NL (you know that a lot of your homeland reminds me of mine!) We just started a TV series here on one of our PBS stations called "Scotland's Scenic Railways" & they also featured Corrour - but actually, yours was more interesting than their segment on it. Thanks for taking us along on this one.....loved the friendly official woof greeter at the station. You need to keep an eye on Alicja, you never know what she's up to in the background!!! Cheers!

Absolutely lovely and I also want to stay at the Corrour Station House. I saw it showcased on another KZbinrs site and me already loving the whole of Glencoe and Rannoch Moor, I want to spend a couple of days at the station house. My favorite drive when I lived in Scotland was nearly the whole of the A-82. Glad you two had fun.

There is so such much history in that area of Glencoe including the massacre of Clan MacDonald for failure to take the oath to the Crown. There are stories told that screams can still be heard in the nighttime when the perfidy was enacted by Scottish troops under Archibald Campbell. Clan MacDonald and Clan Campbell still cannot be seated together because of this attack and they have to attend the annual clan gathering at Edinburgh Castle on separate evenings to forestall any sort of issues even to this day.
