About the "we are close to certain death" but also "actually I murdered everything": I think what made this run feel uncertain was card draw. Usually you have cards that let you choose or a deck size that lets you predict more consistently. In this run you ended up with 47 cards, among them many strong ones but whether you would draw them at the right time remained uncertain. I think the thrill was genuinely entertaining, WP as usual.

It's strange how for a lot of cards, you can get a lot of other cards or combos to fill that same niche and that you can pick if you're only offered those instead of what you actually want... but with Shrug / Dark Embrace, there's nothing that does quite the same thing. Even if you're not Ironclad, there's a lot of things that exhaust over the course of a run, and the difference between that generating value or not generating value is huge, and having to spend energy and cards on making that block or card draw just isn't the same! Getting bites and runic cube only sort of compensated for the lack of block and card draw that they would have given, but in the end only Dark Embrace was Dark Embrace.
