What is ADVANCEing FieldSafety?
Our Mission
ADVANCEing FieldSafety is a widely accessible training for anyone working in field science to help build a safe and welcoming field environment and team culture within the Geosciences and beyond.
Who We Are
The ADVANCEing FieldSafety program is a collaboration between the FieldSafe team at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the ADVANCEGeo Partnership and supported by advisory board members and topic experts. We are a diverse group of individuals with a collective interest and unique skill sets to improve field safety and a welcoming team culture for the broader field-going community.
Our Goals
ADVANCEing FieldSafety aims to advance the following goals:
1. Increase the competency of field teams and individuals related to safety, anti-harassment, positive field culture, and risk management through effective training and active learning, including roleplay activities and reflections.
2. Enable effective preparation of field teams for field campaigns, through the creation and broad dissemination of an easily implementable risk and harassment mitigation toolkit.
3. Broaden participation in field-based work, within and beyond the Geosciences by supporting a culture change towards a welcoming and inclusive environment for all scientists, particularly early-career scientists, and those from diverse backgrounds.
4. Research the effectiveness of field safety and anti-harassment training and the toolkit.
