Jointer restoration project - Machine restoration video

* Some scenes may appear backwards when I used my front facing camera* I don't have a ton of machine restoration videos, but I came I had the opportunity to take this woodworking Jointer home with me for free. I totally disassembled it and and restored it the best that I could. I have used it now for a while and love it. Next upgrade would be a helical cutter head. ‪@shelix2657‬

I was using the front facing camera on the phone, it reverses everything.

Nice job! I picked up an old (50s era) 6” Atlas jointer and am going through same process. Too cold in Michigan now to paint, so that will have to wait! I’m planning to replace cutterhead bearings and knives. Curious if you did that also or considered?? Thx

I was wondering if the 2 planer beds when flipped over one another would they be fully flat and with zero gaps between their planing surfaces ? ... As you can see mine is showing a 3 mm gap between them half way through from their wing sides.

They both fit in dovetail iron rails. You couldn't flip them as they are designed for one side.

@@JoePalumbo221 ... I meant flip(not switch) them over one another on their surface(with the dovetail side facing topside) ... I did this on my planner only to check their surfaces if they'll join just like 2 pieces planned on this machine with no gap ... Mine is showing a 3mm gap half way through(from the non-dovtail side) ... I wanted to check if any of you people have tried this flipping and found gaps or were having tight gapless meeting of the 2 surfaces.

Thanks. I just use a camera and point and shoot and use basic editing software then upload. Nothing fancy. There are tons of how to videos on KZbin.

I have one of these Reliant jointers, and am having a bit of a difficult time finding a video showing how to tighten the belt that drives the cutter head. There are very few videos about this jointer on KZbin, and none of them show what I am having difficulty with. Would you be willing to make a video showing how this is done please??? I can't seem to keep the motor's pulley in alignment with the pulley on the cutter head. Thank you in advance.

Hey great resto. Why did you feed the timber through backwards? Is that why both beds are adjustable?

Thanks. Lol. I get some comments about that. I used my cell phones front facing camera to record that and it reverses everything and makes it look like I'm feeding it in the wrong direction.

What did you use to lubricate the dovetail ways?

I used what's called super lube. It's a synthetic grease. It's what I had on hand.

What spray paint did you use ?

Just regular rustoleum rattle can spray. Primer then finish.

Did you wipe all the painted areas with mineral spirits before painting ?

Yes I cleaned all surfaces with mineral spirits and taped off the finished cast iron for painting the other areas.
