Great content as always! In finding the right school for someone with no knowledge of jiu jitsu, would you recommend that the school has a curriculum similar to Gracie University, where they focus on the 36 core positions? I came across an affiliate of Gracie University, as well as a Relson Gracie Academy, and they only have a fundamentals course. However, I am not sure if that is as step-by-step like the Gracie University gym. I appreciate your response.

100%!! I truly believe anyone who is just starting out enroll in a school that offers a structured curriculum geared for beginners. We've been to the Gracie Academy in California, and they have this down to a T. Unfortunately, not all BJJ schools offer this type of programming for beginning students. I would recommend you call and visit the places yourself and you'll instantly get a feel for the place, the instructor, and the students; and see if it's a good fit for you. Most good places should offer you a one to three-day no-obligation trial, and you'll be able to know right away if they're programs are based for you (beginner) or for the people that are already there and at a more advanced level. If they throw you in the same class, they probably don't have a structured program in their school. Good luck and keep me posted! 🙂
