On the final day of Union Pacific's "Heartland of America" Tour, the UP Steam Crew proudly ran their prized "Big Boy" No. 4014 back to their home base in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
The day began in Denver, where we find the locomotive standing ready at UP's former D&RGW North Yard. Having the locomotive stationed at this particular spot was a historic moment, as it had been many decades since a steam locomotive once graced this trackage.
After watching Amtrak's Westbound California Zephyr pass through on it's daily run westward, we watch the steam locomotive and train as it is taken from the North Yard locomotive servicing facility, and back into the yard to tie on to the day's train. From there, we reposition over to a piece of trackage known as the "Belt Line" connection, where the train backs away from North Yard, transferring over to Denver's 36th Street Yard. We then conclude with the 4014 slowly making it's way up the Outbound Track on UP's Greeley Subdivision.
Off we go for another extravagant day of chasing trains! Rate. Comment. Subscribe. ENJOY!!! Copyright Nick Valdez Railroad Photography 2024.
