By deeming someone "underrated" we're basically saying they aren't famous enough - which can put a lot on pressure on artists everywhere. Fame can take many forms. You must be a Gen Z. If you were a bit older, you would know she hit it big young and built her fan base naturally (both in singing and acting) before there were outlets like KZbin. She was starring in films with megastars like Robin Williams back in 2006 when she was just a teenager. So, the fact she is still in the singing game shows she never left it nor was underrated. It's just that newer aged people are getting to know her and feel she is underrated.

She was robbed by her record company when she was hot on the charts back in the day, simple as that. I do wonder where she would be, fame wise, if that hadn't happened. The fact that she sued the company for damages to her career shows she may have wondered the same thing at one point. She's more talented and less famous than a lot of other singers out there, and fans don't mean harm for wishing she had more mainstream recognition.
