Now that most of the initial hype from Part 9 has worn off let's truly see how it holds up and how it sets itself apart from the other parts of JoJo.
The JOJOLands (ザ・ジョジョランズ, Za JoJoranzu) is the ninth and current part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The story takes place on the volcanic islands of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. Jodio Joestar, a young boy living on Oahu Island, aspires to become extremely rich by reaching the apex of the world's mechanisms. As for what he plans to do to achieve his goals, an unpredictable story unfolds in the islands woven with light and shadow. - JoJo's Bizarre Encyclopedia (jojowiki.com)

I feel like part 9 is the first time a lot of jojo fans are around for the release of a part in the manga, so many weren’t used to the slow pace of a monthly release schedule. We still have a long way to go and I have a feeling this part is going to get so hype once things start rolling.

look its not as bad as the opm wb to manga adaptation going on. Like a lot of it is cool asf, but the scheduling is horrible. Like there were somewhere between 10 to 20 delays for the past few chapters since there had to be redraws, then calendar conflicts arose, and then bam we finally get back to where we were and boom 2 month hiatus as of now. Point of what I'm trying to say is Araki is working well with his monthly releases compared to the in determinant maybe next week to oh shit a couple months from now.

this goes against his royal road of writing. you can argue that the jojolands itself is already a departure from how he normally writes, but it's still seemingly following the idea of having a main character who is always rising. in araki's beliefs, he wants his main character to face conflict but to never take a step backward - the idea of jodio starting out without much aim in life makes sense as a starting point, but going beneath that or reverting to it later after developing would go against the philosophy that araki has built on for decades@@stairwaytoheaven8

To be fair to JoJolands, both SBR and JoJolion had slow starts too. I feel like a major reason Araki made the jump from Shounen to Seinen, wasn't just so he could have more "edge" in the story, but mainly so he could have a much more character and plot focused pace than an action focused one.

It’s two things for me: 1. I just can’t get into monthly releases of JoJo while it’s still coming out. It’s almost impossible for me to keep up the momentum with fights with so many days in between. The pacing is perfect when you read it all at once. 2. There are SO many hooks and different things going on with the mystery of the lava rock and the enemy that it’s almost disorienting trying to keep track of what the hell is going on. I actually have no doubt that this part could be as good as 7 or 8, but I’m gonna wait a fat minute to binge it again. Also this is the exact opposite of Part 7: I NEED to read in color sometimes to even recognize what the hell is supposed to be what, especially with the latest fight.

I'm liking these stands so far because they all very clearly are more befitting to this subterfuge / heist related action the part is going for - the first mission was just completed so we can't tell if this is like the main form of interaction or engagement in this part a.k.a. them pulling off these gigs with increasing difficulty and severity - but they all fit the form of action very well - i do like the stand-related combat but a change of pace is also appreciated, I'm not too worried about the stands powers being too specific as wer'e still so early to the part that i'd imagine the main cast stand abilities will likely improve and evolve in some way, perhaps out of need and desire in a dire situation or when they are on a mission somewhere

This could be one of Araki best arcs if he handles this right ngl

If i had to take only the first 12 chapters of Part 7-8-9 and compare them without knowing how the story would evolve, i would definitely say that Part 9 has the strongest opening chapters. Part 7 is still my favourite part but the story takes a while to really start, stands aren't even introduced until around chapter 15. Part 8 relies a lot on the mystery behind it all so there is a lot of "wait what the fuck is happening" throughout most of the first half (not that it's a bad thing but it can feel confusing). Part 9 so far has an amazing cast of characters and stands, we have a good mystery with the lava rock going forward but we still got plenty of action in the meantime that showed some great interactions between the members of the gang. Also i belive in Meryl Mei supremacy it's way too early to look for a main villain but if it turns out to be her i would have zero complaints

I also love how November Rain isn't a punch ghost for the first time since steel ball run (and even then tusk later became a punchy boy), i also love how all the stands are super unconventional and dont have direct combat abilities because it makes it feel like a breath of fresh air compared to other stands

Just from your basic summary I think this shows a really cool new dynamic of characters maturing as the part goes on rather than the main character being completely holy and righteous in nature, and having one set goal throughout the entire part while bringing others with them, it’s cool to see that every character is gonna have an arc of some sort as time goes on and brings more excitement to what will happen rather than knowing a character’s intention, like with Giorno for example, and knowing the tone in which the part will end surrounding said intention as a finale

I got high hopes for JoJolands. It's understandable that the hype died down given that Araki usually starts at a slow pace and even slower with monthly releases, I feel like once one of the characters obtained or stated to have a really broken ability or a really good chapter or fight pops up, that's when the hype will most likely to come

I just re-read it and I gotta say I liked it a lot more when I didn’t have to wait a month between chapters. The battle against the cats didn’t feel nearly as long & drawn out as it did originally.

So Part 7 "was like" Part 1, 2 and 3 all together. Part 8 "like" Part 4, now i guess Part 9 " like" part 5 with Giorno. Koichi was in the beginning of Part 5. Now it is Rohan. Maybe an alternative Diavolo, or his daughter. I am looking forward to see the next, and one more thing. Jodio....jo D I O.

I've been enjoying Part 9 so far! I also agree that Jodio's stand might evolve in some way. November Rain is a huge and beautiful song (having listen to it after the 1st chapter) and we've barely seen the influence the song has on both the stand or Jodio's character.

I honestly am enjoying part 9 more than part 8 tbh. Mainly because Araki is creating something more akin to old JoJo in its presentation and the fights and it's very refreshing considering Part 8 to me had a very slow start and it feels like Part 9 is moving at a good pace in my opinion. I also love the character dynamics they are showing off in this part as it's very reminiscent of Part 5 and Passione as they remind me of all that good character writing.

It’s like (call me crazy) how I felt in OP when Egghead Arc started. It felt a bit weird! But, after rereading everything you realize how good it is! It’s the release dates for sure! Month to month is especially difficult for me! This is my first Jojo caught up, and I’m in it for the long haul. It’s Bizarre for Sure, but that’s the point, and I like our cast, and while it’s slowly moving, I like that! I can’t wait especially now to see what’s next, our first mission is complete, what will our crew do next, is the big question! Are they going to *Japan?* Plus while it’s a bit antsy waiting a month, it’s nowhere near how long I’ve been waiting for more Fist of the Blue Sky Regenesis (2 years or more) or for Hokuto No Gun to finally translate more Ikusa No Ko! (6 years)

The characters and the setting are very good. The cast is cool, their stands interesting etc... HOWEVER the big flaw for the moment would be the fights. Like, we didn't get much difficulty nor struggle to deal with any "ennemy" thus far. We have yet to see our protags in a true fight with those sparks of ingeniosity you could see in parts like Vento Aureo or the first fight of Jojolion.

The part that has been left out up until now, is that I haven’t seen any connection to any other parts yet. Rohan is a reference, but he’s not a reference to book 7 or book 8. Maybe his name was mentioned in book 7 or eight, I’m not sure, but at least none of the main story points from seven or eight are involved in nine I think the big wow moment is going to occur when we realize how this fits in to the whole holy corpse, rock people narrative. The rock itself does sort of remind me of the sacred arrows. it’s like when in part four, they find a sacred arrow and slowly figure out what it is, what it does, and that it comes from a somewhat alien source, just like the rock people of do in a way

I like the monthly releases it gives me a reason to reread previous chapters more often so I miss less details than when I'm binge reading and gives me something to look forward to. I thought it was slow at first but when rereading this and comparing it to most previous parts the pacing is a good middle ground and I it ever gets animated this part will do very well in an episodic format. Jodio is a more consistent goofball than almost every JOJO since Joseph and Josuke4 and I reminds me of why I liked parts 2 and 4 so much. It's like if Giorno tried to do an impression of Young Joseph and I just hope the side characters don't take over the story like in parts 4 and 5.

i got hooked up from the get go. I really love everything about the 9th part instead of (as mentioned in the video) fighting type stands. Stands from part 8 were so lame sometimes i wondered if they can get any worse than that. I mean half of them were auto stands, and i don't really like that concept in part 8 but it's better done in part 9 so far. Hope it will become my favourite part.

I would like to point out too that as of now Jodio, Dragona, Paco, Usagi and our new jobro Charming Man. Seems to have strategics type stands, what I mean by that is that all the previous Joestars (only exception being Joseph and Johnny until Tusk part 3) had really humanoid like stands and could directly attack their enemies with their stand bodies by throwing punches or at least use some physical attacks instead of their stand abilities, like Joseph attack with Hermit Purple, Johnny even tho he wasn't able to use Tusk act 1 body to attack people he could at least attack in a more aggressive way by using his nails. Jodio as of now could only use his rain ability to restrain people from running away or immobilizing them, he didn't seem to be really able to "kill" people with the rain. This is all just a guess of me but I think that the reason why they seem to all have strategic stands is because it's going to play a role in how they will get more mature by the time, they will need to use their brain to get away from people trying to kill them, work as a team thus becoming more mature by the time. And we already seen how it went when they got attacked by the cats and charming man, alone they didn't seem to do much but as a team they got away

I think arakis family and younger generation focus in his storytelling may be based partially on him having more of a family life with kids since part 6 Love the breaking bad parallel. Honestly only from the first panel of the lava erupting up got me on hype for part 9 non stop, im hawaiian and this kinda fits the same vibe as Hawaii does have violence but is in fact mostly peaceful, a paradise. So the amount of how the fist fighting combat is in jojo, it can kind of make sense why Araki is making it a bit lowkey, and more of a mystery-heist-tropical kind of setting. But that aside, again seeing lava erupt in the first page is hype, making me think we'll see a stand or stand fight related to lava and who knows, perhaps the lava rock may have a connection to that first page and the possible Lava stand.

I have already made some sort of theory for what part 10 could be, or maybe I could make a fan-made JoJo part 10. I think it would be pretty interesting to have it parallel part 6 since part 8 parallels part 4, and part 9 parallels part 5. Since the parallels exist, instead of a prison It could be in an asylum or leprosarium of sorts instead. And the main antagonist could be a callback to pucci but instead of following Dio’s Heaven Plan they would follow Funny Valentine’s vision. The corpse parts might come back as well.
