an artist tries to challenge the audience and may fail, but a critic only reinforces popular opinion- youtube has grown into a fascinating hivemind, its baffling that there arent more people disturbed by the fact, that videos are routinely titled i watched x, so you dont have to, critical thinking itself can be an artform, if it leaves room, for discourse, but that just became another buzz word. im sure many have read the oscar wilde quote, that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence- i think its wild, that even the overused sarcasm of most content creators, that serves to portray your youtube persona as more likeable, is slowly being replaced, by inserting more memes, which amounts to creative regurgitation. regarding just folie a deux, its a film i respect and appreciate, because its hard to love- theres a lot of missed opportunities, a particularly bizarre decision, to include prison rape, it even shows glimpses, of what a more fan pleasing film couldve been (id argue that the cover of anthony newleys the joker includes more true to comics imagery, than all of the first movie). it certainly made me ponder the road not taken, arthur couldve had the girl, the admiration of the crowd....yet he finally dropped the act. theres more than one message in this flick and even if it was a cynical cash grab, which i certainly dont see in the movie itself, my main takeaway was how genuienly uncomfortable it felt- the slightly off key singing, that grinds the movies momentum, to a halt of blackness- what makes the musical genre especially so unpopular with a modern audiences, is that its vulnerable, honest sentiment, naked, the antithesis to a quip-filled cameo fest, like deadpool vs wolverine. i strongly feel, that this film, even if the storys not being played out in present time, says a fair bit, about how the world has changed, in the last 5 years, since the first one dropped. it wasnt love at first sight, but after pondering it for a bit, i feel, this eclipses the first movie, not story wise, not in political discourse, or even about, what was real and what it all meant, but sheer emotional impact wise. i get some of the backlash and theres talking points obviously include no critical thinking whatsoever (how many times has ledgers joker been brought up?), but in the end, i cared about arthur, more so than the joker and thats why i felt the sudden urge, to leave this post, from a nobody- if nothing else, its an honest opinion, for what i felt to be an honest movie

@@GNTHEGUNS i try to stay out of what could be called toxic discourse, but i want to say my piece about it, if people write things like 3 bad reviews from so and so? must be shit. dont get me wrong, theres a high likelyhood, some of the audience will be pissed off, but so would any artist, if thats how you view, or in this case rather not view, this work, for no other reason, than being unable to form their own opinion about it
@fabianhammer28643 ай бұрын
@@GNTHEGUNS if youre interested, i have been asked to defend my takes, to some people, who just wanted to start shit over the movie and i tried my best, to explain my reasoning and watched the movie again, to do so- some things are now clearer to me and for other scenes, ive come up with my own interpretation, which might clear up your own thoughts, regarding the last scene with harley. so here goes.... regarding the rape scene....after my second viewing of the film its even made less ambigious, that not only did this happen, it didnt just happen to arthur- pretty much near the beginning of the movie, theres an inmate called bullock (of all the names) who refuses, to come out of his cell and the guards carry him away, jackie telling them, to taking him to the other cell block, while the guy is kicking and screaming- after arthurs assault, the same guy yells out of his cell, arthur, what did they do to you, or something to that effect....i think its commonplace with the inmates, that step out of line- all of the above is mostly based on a feeling, but whats clear to me, is that the killing of arthur was indeed, without a doubt, an idea, by the guards, to get rid of him....jackie mockingly tips his hat to him, sings we three (me echo, my shadow and me), another one of the cops tells him not to sing that song (in a way to suggest, that its unnecessarily macabre)....after hearing the lyrics to build a mountain more clearly this time, i think the whole harley pregnancy, was always just meant, to foreshadow (pun intended) the arrival, of the inmate, taking over for arthur....the lyrics are Ah, what a fine young son to take my place and that part cuts back to new proto-joker (i think its the last, or second to last line, that arthur sings, while imagining harley shooting him) also convinced that the narrative of the movie was either severely changed up, during the editing, or theres at least three harley scenes, two of them in close proximity to each other, that are in arthurs mind alone and not distinctly marked, as delusion....pretty sure, that despite phillips course correcting, by explaining, that certain scenes were real (which he also did, after the first movie) you cant take all of the surface story, at face value- one of the more obvious examples is harley telling him, shes pregnant and after the close to you sequence, hes dancing inside his cell, in a way, that this time around, suggested he might imagine the song in his head, due to the way, it cut immediately from the song, to the shot of arthur, dancing in dreamlike manner (and i think his delusion stars with the sex scene, hes thrown into solitary confinement, imagines them dancing on the rooftop, shes already there, when he wakes up, he makes it a point, to tell her, hes not taking his meds anymore, before they have sex and later on, in the courtroom, what causes him to snap and fire mary anne? the suggestion, during sophies testimony, that arthurs a virgin)- i also picked out, that at least half the time, if not more, the next song title, or a lyric, is suggested in the dialogue, by a person, that usually isnt arthur, or lee (an example would be mary anne, telling him she knows, what its like to love somebody, after telling arthur about lee and then him dreaming up the performance of to love somebody, during which arthur is shot)

I liked this film👍🏻🃏 it could have done with out the musical, but it was cool. Defo no masterpiece like the first. The ending was a shock, and i liked it, i still felt bad for arthur getting pushed around nd not fighting back. Gaga was ok, she just sings,like if she was making a mini movie video big fukcing deal. And play acting, i still don't know if she's a good actress. And i didn't care for her as Harley. She could have been called june me it wouldn't make a difference if you understand what I'm saying. She was just a sick fan, not threatening as i hoped she'd be. Arthur getting "snuggled" by his gaurd was daft...smh..i was waiting for Arthur to kill these fukcers, he came off weak, and i liked him as 'joker' he was tough and would have killed those gaurds. Joaquin is my favourite actor, he was brilliant in this. The score was brilliant again. Cinematography was breathtaking..defo oscar for that 👍🏻 Ive seen worse dc films so...😅

I Liked it. Yeah, it has plot issues, and not as good as the first, but I thought it was pretty good and quite entertaining. It's "One flew over the Cucokoo Nest" + "All that Jazz" with a dash "Looking for Mister Goodbar" (The abrupt ending)

@owenorders52023 ай бұрын
@aliceinacidland This sort of movie has been made a dozen times, and much better, since Martin Scorcese's 'Taxi Driver' and onwards. This was nothing new, except this lazily directed, action free and devoid of wit waste of time and money was set in Gotham City and used Harley Quinn, Harvey Dent, Arkham Asylum, and calling an inmate 'Bullock', in a cynical and calculated exercise to exploit Batman fans. Without the Gotham City elements, the critics (who don't want to alienate DC fanboys and suffer a backlash) would have laughed this utter tripe out of town. Anyone who's not a Bat-fan completist can see through this movie for the con trick that it is. Without the elements unnecessarily tying it in with the DC superheroes franchise, this complete twaddle would have sunk without trace. Slow, dull, boring, badly written, with some inexplicable sequences that obscure Harley Quinn's motivations and that completely contradict the personality of Joker that had previously been established in the first film. Definitely destined for a Golden Turkey or Razzle award. There just isn't a Tomato Rotten enough to rate this drivel. It's truly an awful, awful, very awful film.

The first movie is defo a fav of mine, however sad it is, so I’ll probably check this out at some point. I was a bit skeptical when I heard it was sort of a musical or at least had musical elements, but I’ll still give it a chance and see it unlike many who are writing it off as feminist trash already because lady Gaga and musical. It will be interesting to see the tonal shift from somber to upbeat, but I am curious if they acknowledge the innocent counselor he kills at the end of the first movie because up until that point he may not have been justified in killing those people but at least had understandable reasons, perhaps that was when he went from more an anti hero type to a straight up villain.

Not necessarily upbeat. I‘d even say it‘s more depressing than the first one, but in a good way (as in, it fits the tone). Pay attention to the intro sequence, though. It makes sense in the end, and a lot of reviewers seem to have overlooked it.

The first Joker really impressed me, but Joker: Folie á Deux disappointed me because making a sequel of Joker was already an unnecessary thing from a beginning. Obviously, some things worked well like casting Lady Gaga to play Harley Quinn because of the idea to make Joker 2 seem a musical, nevertheless if I were you, I wouldn't invest money on watching Joker 2.
