@@wadewilson6628 I'm going to explain to you what I'm doing in my original comment because you've not got it. I am taking what the director has said and I'm using it against him to point out that he didn't think that in the first place, that his actual thoughts of what the poor and disenfranchised are in "this" movie and that he revels in that because he thinks he's better than you. Saying how he ripped off another movie isn't doing anything for anyone, because his defenders are going to argue that all movies are rip offs of other works. If you want to make sure he's not going to ever get work again, you need to make the public opinion of his as low as possible. What I am doing in my comment is saying "he lied to you about wanting to show the world how bad things are for the poor and forgotten, when all he cared about was getting money and spitting on the poor and forgotten, as he has in this sequel." Psycho Pass mentioned hell yeah. Makishima is a great sympathetic villain, arguably not a villain at all since he's trying to destroy a system that has turned humans into what are effectively emotionally neutered worker drones. Freedom has a price and that price is all the bad things humans can and might do with it. But of course he comes off as a villain because the viewer sees him through the lens of the brainwashed protagonist. I mean, he did do some questionable things but his end goal is good IMO. It’s true-Hollywood’s been in a strange place lately. There’s so much focus on subverting expectations, pushing agendas, or trying to "elevate" genres that they seem to have forgotten how to just make entertaining movies. It’s baffling that they’re willing to throw that much money at projects nobody asked for, while leaving fans frustrated and alienated. Instead of telling stories people want to see, they’re more interested in chasing trends, making statements, or patting themselves on the back. If only they could stop trying to reinvent the wheel and just deliver solid, engaging stories again. Until then, it feels like we’re stuck in a weird limbo where every new release is either a soulless cash grab, a misguided reboot, or some convoluted "bold new take" that completely misses the point.

I don't understand why they didn't just do a character driven, psychological thriller with Arthur now in Arkham being treated by Harley, while showing the after effects in Gotham from the first film with the film ending with Harley becoming the Harley we all know and helping Arthur escape. Jaquin is a good enough actor to carry a movie focused on dialogue rather than action. You know, be lore accurate and actually build on the first film.

The wrong type of audience found the first movie compelling so they saw fit to arrange a humiliation ritual for them in the form of this sequel.

4:04 I thought the original character, as written by Paul Dini for the animated series, was a psychiatrist that tried to help the Joker, only to fall in love with him and help him escape, then decided to become his henchwoman. And I wouldn't call this version of Harley a stalker. Having seen the movie, she seemed more like a fame-seeking dummy, that rejects Arthur at the end since she was attracted to the Joker character, not the man behind the make-up. She was lying and manipulative, but you seem to think stalking automatically means erotomania. He was just a means to an end, which in her case seemed to have been, shallow and dumb as I understood it by the end, just having a good time (at the expense of lying, manipulating, setting off fires, smashing store windows and stealing merchandise).

@randomcenturion7264 I actually really liked that movie, but yeah.. that line just made me roll my eyes and facepalm. It was completely unnecessary and didn't fit into the film whatsoever. Catwoman was great until that part as well so it felt randomly out of character. Then I saw an interview with the actor and it all made sense. She's another Hollywood femcel who probably begged for that line to be put in.

Joker 2 should have been about absolute chaos and mayhem and the destruction of the status quo. It did not need a femme fatale, irreverent music, or….a dumb f’ing trial. Anything less is a deliberate assault on the first movie and the director knew this.

Well, it almost seems here like you're a joker fanboy just mad that your wittle sad murderous clown got killed. And THAT is way more of a problem, a problem I had(someone who believes both movies were not good, but the first was definitely better) with this joker in general, is that he's a wimpy victim. That's not Joker, we know very little about the Joker purposefully, because he's not a victim of society, he's the worst product of it.
@voxfoxclips86842 ай бұрын
@@hammloc *Did I say ‘Joker’ at any point in my message?* I only said Arthur. I don’t care if this is or isn’t related to the Joker at all, it was a compelling story of a character who was abused and mentally broken, pushed over the edge despite trying to do everything society expected of him. He’s wimpy, yeah, but he gave into the insanity and people chose the lesser of two evils. We weren’t rooting for an evil clown to cause mayhem, we were rooting for a victim of a broken system and to teach it a lesson of what happens when you keep kicking down the people who don’t have a voice. The sequel instills a message of ‘be good with our system or suffer harder and anyone who is in our system and abuses their power will always get away with no consequences’. That’s not a good message. Don’t think that someone who dislikes the movie because ‘society won’ is a joker fanboy. Our system today is full of corruption and abuse and people thought the first movie shed light on that. This new one put a character we felt sad for and saw lash out to discover a new self, a stronger, yet crueler version, be torn down and killed with a whimper. It also puts a sour note on trying to even live in today’s world and how people are being treated by their own system. This isn’t a bad movie because it ‘wasn’t the joker’, it was a bad movie because despite its acting and choreography… it had a terrible story for the person we were watching from the movie before and this film felt like a spite flick to that character development.

based on the reviews, I wouldnt be surprised if THIS joker movie pushed people to become shooty and stabby. They should have made the sequel a dark version of 'one flew over the cuckoos nest' in which Arthur corrupts those around him, including a doctor Quinn

the mainstream didn't like that too many men saw themselves in the character because the first film reflected the current state of society but the activists didn't like it, because of course "screw you guys" and said that Arthur's position in reality actually belongs to black women (yes, you can find such demented articles) so in the second film Arthur had to be deconstructed so that men did not want to see themselves in him

What baffles me here is, like you said, the director of this film through the medias perception, has begun to hate his own creation. But it's not just Homelander. Alan Moore despises the fact that Rorschach is the most popular character from Watchmen. Chuck Palanuik hates that Tyler Durden is a cinematic icon. Why? Why do they hate their own characters that empower their male audiences? It make zero sense to me??

It’s so obvious at the end of Joker that Arthur is fully gone. More than that, he’s fully allowed Joker to permanently take over. I also agree with your point about people not seeming to grasp that just because you are watching a character do something, doesn’t mean you condone the actions. It’s honestly absurd that society has gotten to a point that people legitimately think these are criticisms

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I didn't think the first Joker movie was that great. Don't get me wrong, the film is well-made, but it felt more like a story about a mentally troubled individual abandoned by society rather than a true representation of The Joker or the DC universe. It focused on his descent into madness and the chaos that ensued, rather than the character's traditional lore. So, I'm not surprised that the second film didn't resonate well; it feels like there wasn't a solid foundation from the first movie to build upon.

SPOILERS 0:42 The songs are blatantly and unapologetically an expression of the characters' true intentions and emotions. They consistently reinforce the film’s themes-you just have to listen to them. 0:53 So, are all character-driven films considered empty just because not much happens from a plot perspective? 2:09 One of the key elements of the first movie was how it blurred the lines between reality and fiction, and the ending reflects this ambiguity-it’s a double-edged sword. Personally, I never believed he actually killed her; I saw it as another moment of his imagination. But that’s just my interpretation. 5:16 Why should anything happen to him? He’s in a position of power, in control, and essentially untouchable. That was also a central theme of the first movie. 5:26 In the first movie, Arthur makes it clear he never wanted to become a symbol-he just wanted to be seen, and even loved. This desire drove him to kill six people, including indirectly causing the death of the young man he was closest to in the hospital. Hearing him die broke something inside Arthur, leading him to accept his true self as Arthur Fleck. It was a brave choice for both the character and the film, but by then the damage was already done, and it all ended in tragedy. When Arthur decides not to be Joker anymore, the guard loses interest in him-he’s no longer “entertaining” because the sensationalism is gone. Which is again the theme of the movie. 6:24 I’m part of the minority that appreciated the ending. Arthur stayed true to himself, dying as Arthur Fleck-a forgotten nobody-and not as Joker, because no one truly cared about him. In that sense, we’re not so different from the version of Harley Quinn portrayed in the film, who wanted to be "entertained" by his fantasy.
