You understand nothing...0. The sequel (or the later seasons in the case of a TV show) are finally the time when the actors & directors usually get paid. I'm not saying it makes a better product, I'm just saying it's reality. Didn't these people deserve to get paid more for producing a billion dollars the first time. Yes, but the studio shafted them with a mediocre contract. Now they finally get paid. Look at all the one hit wonders in music, why weren't they able to do it a second time? Because they only had one idea. 1) Arthur Fleck was too weak and whiny and not intelligent enough to be the actual Joker. 2) The arc of the movie was not bad. Let's get rid of this loser, so the real Joker can come forth 3) ...forget the musical 4) ...forget Lady Gaga. She's average looking and slightly corpulent 5) Many women have hybristophilia (attracted to violent men). It is on a continuum between spanking and serial killers. A man must be able to handle situations. 6) Typically, women don't love men for interests, morality, ethics.... just what they accomplish. In this case, fame & violence. 7) Doppelgangers... if you're going to have a psycho girl, then don't make her Harley Quinn, since Arthur Fleck was not the Joker. There are plenty of women with hybristophilia.

@@Menstral ...Huh? Phoenix made 4.5 million dollars for the first film. That's not exactly chump change, even if he made almost 5x as much for this film. Todd Philips made 100 million from the first film. You are the one who doesn't understand anything. All the grips, assistants, secondary cast members and background cast would have made the same regardless, because that's how the industry works. There isn't much info out there about producer salaries for the first film, but rest assured they were paid well. Even if it was low budget it was a full production studio, not an indie project. The sad part, is that a movie with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Ga Ga directed by Todd Philips has a lot of potential. They could have done an actor/director focused original film that capitalized on the success of the Joker, but was still its own thing. The first Joker movie took off, because it was an actor and director focused movie, Trojan Horsing as a franchise movie. Getting all of that talent together, only to do a worse sequel really feels like everyone involved learned the wrong lessons, especially Hollywood.

Joker shoulda rocked into Arkham a completely new man and just got scarier with every scene. Have all the guards hate him and want to bring him low but everything they try he flips and laughs in their face cuz he truly doesn't give a f*ck so they get more and more nervous and powerless. Have that galvanize all the other inmates to the the horror of the guards/faculty until it all culminates in a riot/bloodbath and them all turning loose on Gotham. Have a series of scenes where he interacts with all the other inmates one on one (a veritable who's who of the Rogue's Gallery). Have Joker immediately identify their weak points, shove it in their faces and spin it like he's doing them a favour to make them better, smarter, stronger, more confident etc. while laying the psychological breadcrumbs for them to pin all the blame for their issues on the guards/faculty/institution/society etc. Like have it so Joker's psychotic delusion is a character of it's own spreading throughout the place like a mind-virus eroding ppl's self awareness and personal responsibility more and more causing them to become more unhinged like him but no matter how bad they get he one-ups them every time so they fear and follow him. A cult leader amping them all up. Oh the slow burn tension you could have done so the audience slowly come to the realization it's all a plan to create the perfect conditions for a riot. Hell you could have made it so all those interactions between Joker and others and the subsequent interactions between them and the ppl they blamed for their problems culminate in Joker acquiring all the materials and conditions necessary to facilitate the break-out. Like a reverse heist movie combined with a prison break film where the object isn't to get someone into the vault but everyone out of the facility. Then the climax is something absolutely insane where he loses it and does something so f*cked it sets off the powder keg he created and they all snap and everyone else panics. The slow degradation of order and civility into complete and utter chaos and catastrophe kinda in the same vein as the movie Deepwater Horizon. You know where all the little things build up until the SHTF. But they had to virtue-signal so they didn't get Gina Carano'd for supporting the "right wing incels" (actual comic book fans that understand the characters and IP and just like a good villain without identifying with him on a personal level like the identity politics pushing executives, activists and entertainment media propagandists they ended up kowtowing to)

I enjoyed the film. Yes, it does not compare to the first, however, this film does a great job creating a layout for a third film. It was a film made in the perspective of Arthur Fletcher. He’s nothing insane, just bland. I loved the musical numbers because they felt real and out of sorts, just like the mind of what everyone can imagine is going on in the Joker’s mind. This film shows the side of Arthur that wants human values like love, but towards the end, he realizes the only way he can ever have love and fulfill his dream of being a clown is by being Joker. Arthur was killed, and all who is left is the Joker. But I can understand why people were outraged.

What a weird couple of comebacks. As if the crew couldn't "feed their families" on the first Joker. And as if we don't all know that a bloated budget is often a sign of problems.

What I've got from this movie is the actual 2nd degree reading. Was probably not obvious enough... Arthur keeps building up fantasies of him doing those things. And the musical parts are part of Arthur's mind. Music makes you whole is a say that got told multiple Times in the movie. Gaga's character is what Arthur see of her. An enabler, a pure dedicated follower. Based on those, its really Arthur going on trial with himself to decide whether he wants to be Arthur or the Joker. The ending tells that. A psychopath laughing to the depressed comedian wasnt enough to make a ton of people catch Up what the movie is about. The cartoon at the beginning pretty Much tell it. Arthur wants to make people laugh to deal with his pain. But Joker is the icon, this dark passenger that gives him the ever wanted glory.

I actually think this review is bad because the reviewer had too many expectations and honestly didn't get why the movie did what it did it the first place. I really get why they joker 2 is a musical, because they dive deeper into joker's thoughts and they let us see what's he really thinking. If you'll notice in the first movie whenever Arthur channels his inner psycho he usually dances, it's a medium for him to be free.

I’m in the minority but I was so disappointed with Longlegs. I had high hopes and was so excited to see it in theaters but then it ended up being a meh experience. I still refer to it as “Cable tv crime drama/horror tropes with beautiful cinematography and a guest appearance of Nic Cage” the movie. 😖

I liked it. The subliminal messaging alone, the blocking of the actors making satanic symbols. I was lucky that I saw the movie without knowing Cage was in it and didn't even recognize him.😅

I think I would have liked it if it wasn't so hyped. Someone said it was better than Hereditary... clearly it isn't. I think a real serial killer approach would have been better, imo. It feels like an indie movie. And it's boring as hell.

I would have preferred the hangover 2 here , instead he went straight to 3. Pointless and completely unnecessary sure, but this was an insult to the audience. A super aggressive poke in the eye is anyone dumb enough to trust Todd.

Everyone is missing the point. The first movie showed that one person can become an icon - even if he’s a manic murderer, because people (the society) we live in outcasts/celebrates mentally ill people instead of supporting them. The second movie comments on the success of the first one - the huge support ‘Arthur’ gets from us, the audience and how we’re all disappointed when he doesn’t want to be the Joker, when he tries to grow, none of us want to accept it - we want him to remain as the murderous clown. What does that say about us? I think it’s a very clever movie, the fact people are outraged will mean in years to come it’ll be hailed as a film that captured the madness of our times.

@@christofferjenzen78The second movie is a meta commentary on the cultural impact of the first movie. People here are upset about the direction they took with Arthur, and I think that was the point of the movie.
@christofferjenzen782 ай бұрын
@@weed75black35 It certainly makes for some divisive viewing. Im not the biggest fan of the first and it seems for the same reason alot of people loved it and if this is somewhat of a takedown of the same culture Joker helped build...It would make for a very interesting conversation piece. Responses so far are hard to read, it's hard to know if people didn't like the point It's making (people hate to admit that ) or they just think the narrative is lacking. But I think this can be a great watch if you open your mind to it.
@weed75black352 ай бұрын
@@christofferjenzen78 I think the script itself might be a bit rushed, but the message it wanted to tell had always been there from the beginning. The second movie can come across as admonishing the culture the first movie created, but I didn't think it was made with the explicit intention of taking down Arthur. The first movie was committed to realism and so was this one. It showed a realistic outcome for Arthur's actions, though I understand it's not something the audience wanted to see.

The scene with the Wall Street guys. The talk-show. So many amazing moments. I never felt anything other than bored with this one. I actually wanted it to end. I did not like the singing, it didn't progress the story in any way, it just kept us wanting for what happens after. They could and should have gone a completely different way with this. I was really dissapointed.
