For those looking to make a solid out of this, go to the Part Workbench> Offset, check the fill offset box and use an offset value less than the minimum radius of curvature. You can also make a closed volume of surfaces and then convert the closed volume to a solid, demonstrated here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5rCo2ejnKd6m8k

My computer is still trying to create a NURBS from the point cloud. I guess my Bezzy curves were too much. I simplified the curves and got a more simple point cloud but I still get a double surface in one area. Is this Workbench compatible with Ver 0.21.1 ?
@Miniellipse3 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial. Maybe you could end with converting the surface to a simple solid since many people want to 3d print after this type of step.
@JokoEngineeringhelp3 жыл бұрын
Sure, Part>Offset, check the fill box and make sure the offset is less than the minimum radius of curvature

Your tutorials are excellent! Easily the best there is for FreeCAD. However your microphone audio is quite poor, do you have any plans or ability to upgrade?

That was nice! Could you explain how to create thickness in order to get a solid, please? Specially when the part is twisted beyond 360°, I mean creating a thickness normal to the curve. Thanks!
@JokoEngineeringhelp3 жыл бұрын
Part>Offset, check the fill offset box. The number one problem that happens is there is a minimum radius of curvature that is smaller than the desired thickness, so make sure that curvature is is large as possible!

awsome! how would you procede to give this surface a thickness of 1 mm? I aim at 3d-printing of such complex shapes
@JokoEngineeringhelp3 жыл бұрын
There is a button for it on the part workbench. You cannot thicken more than the minimum radius of curvature
@Gassmaninov3 жыл бұрын
@@JokoEngineeringhelp I know this button. Works unfortunately only with simple solids
@JokoEngineeringhelp3 жыл бұрын
@@Gassmaninov That hasn't been my experience, for example I was able to add thickness to the downloadable GrabCAD part in the description without issue. Are we talking about the same button? Utility to offset in 3d

@@JokoEngineeringhelp yes, you're right. I was using the thickness button. The offset 3D button works using skin mode and fill option. Thanks!

I'm designing a car shell in freecad and when I do an offset to get some thickness in the surface, it does not work. Any suggestions?
@JokoEngineeringhelp3 жыл бұрын
There could be a number of causes, the common culprit is there can be a small part of the surface that happens to have a very tight curve. If the curvature (radius) of any part of the surface is smaller than the thickness, surface will not thicken. For other errors, sometimes it helps to thicken less at a time (Break a fender into thickening the fender and fender flares as separate opreations for instance) or use more simple features to define the surface. Hope that helps

Nice function, but where can I use this method. The curves cannot be handled or controlled.
@ИванДмитриев-ф1в3 жыл бұрын
What do you mean that, cannot be controlled? We can define b-spline, what else do we need? Normal sweep operation, isn't it? Great step for Freecad's users as I think.
@ladyleni81933 жыл бұрын
@@ИванДмитриев-ф1в I used the normal sweep operation with b-spline (look here www.magentacloud.de/lnk/0PLhhd4m).

@JokoEngineeringhelp3 жыл бұрын
Sure an easy emboss would be made easily with the new project command on the part workbench. If you want to flatten something, your only option is the sheet metal workbench. I dont think something embossed would flatten properly on sheet metal.

Thanks for the awesome video. However, for FreeCAD to be taken as a serious surfacing tool, the workflow needs to be more streamlined and the result need to be more precise. Just my rambling.
@henrymach3 жыл бұрын
And how do we turn that into a closed solid?
@JokoEngineeringhelp3 жыл бұрын
You can close it up like here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5rCo2ejnKd6m8k Or part>offset and check the fill offset box and use an offset value less than the minimum radius of curvature
@jwatkins672012 Жыл бұрын
Why not just use boundary surface command in FreeCAD Surface workbench and skip all these steps? In SWX, not in FreeCAD boundary command yet I believe as on phone at the moment, when using the boundary you can also define the continuity to the edge, especially handy for using suraces to control continuity at the boundary "rails".
