So glad I found this channel. Jolanda's sense of having fun while still being at top is truly amazing. She reminds me a lot of how Greg Lemond used to do things his way and many could not understand why that worked out so well. Like Greg, she is truly that once in a generation athlete who discovered what she is great at and that she enjoys it too!

It clearly didn't work last year when again and again she fell back in races, had no UCI XC win at all and when she was repeatedly passed on climbs by other riders

@@amblincork Yes very surprised she thinks like that, pretty sure Kate uses weights and the performance gains she made was amazing. Hope Y has a mind shift about strength training.
@amblincork4 жыл бұрын
@@kelvin7511 Yes, I would love to see Yolanda win an Olmpic gold but I am am just so surprised at this. Kate is a ferocious competitor and will probably improve. Yolanda seems to rely on a low gear high cadence style which doesnt always seem to work.
@jaselikesbikes4 жыл бұрын
@@amblincork It seems to have worked for her previous years. She has been the most consistent performer and just missed out on that overall this year. Who knows, she could be worse if she did weights...... maybe not though ( I am an S&C coach).
@amblincork4 жыл бұрын
@@jaselikesbikes You simply cannot be serious suggesting she she might be worse if she had a gym programme. ? Even school boys and girls across a range of sports incorporate some gym work ! I am a 63 old amateur hill runner and do some weights work . What is S & c ? It doesnt sound as if her views about gym work has come from a professional coach.

Brutally honest: you don't need any of the gym exercise to be one of top best female MTB XC athlete. This is simply called talent ❤️
@amblincork4 жыл бұрын
Thomas Edison, US inventor, said genius is one percent inspiration and 99 per cent perspiration ! The same probably applies to sport.
@gianmarcocostanzo13804 жыл бұрын
@@amblincork her perspiration is done on the bike, not at the gym. Other athletes need to overthink what they need to do at the gym because they don't have the same level of talent. Overall performance is another thing, hence why the right combination of determination, work at the gym and bike, gave other athletes (i.e. Kate Courtney) better performance overall. PS, I'm Kate's fan, and still believe Jolanda is more talented, but Kate works harder.

Yolanda, I only say this because I want you to win more, but I'm sure Leg weight lifting would enable you to sprint in higher gears. It just looks like you lose the close ones because you either think you can"t, or you really can't turn a bigger gear, when it's really important. Just my $.02 worth of advice.

So we dont have to take your word for it ;) Just because soemone (you) with a one in a million genetic gift have won without strentgh traning does not mean that is not beneficial, sorry... N=1 does not prove stuff...

Agreed. And Nino is the counterpoint to Jolanda’s attitude - probably has as much natural talent, but has focused as much on whole body fitness and strength training as anyone, so he can truly dominate.
