Okay, back with a novel. Thank you again! I'm glad that you could indeed appreciate the MVs! There's great comments below about her history, popularity, and what she stands for. Jolin doesn't really fit into any box, she just does it all. Sad, pretty. Funky, cute. Dark, weird. She just isn't afraid to try new things, and I love that. And her MVs are just always captivating, that's really what drew me to her. As I said, I didn't really think you'd be into the songs, but I knew you would like the aesthetics of the videos. Lady in Red is just beautiful and creepy. I picked Play because all gamers have to see how creative that MV is! You probably had most of the story for Lady in Red: Jolin as the fiance, she asked her betrayer friend to try on her wedding dress, then cut off her head so everyone would assume it was her. Cheating hubby-to-be was framed with the axe, then executed for presumably killing his fiance/Jolin. It is pretty overwhelming visually for sure. Play, to my understanding, is her poking fun at the celebrity culture and society's response. I believe there were some real-life events that inspired some scenes (ex: a celebrity caught rolling her eyes at fans when they turned their back). If you're curious about more of her stuff, everyone had good suggestions below. All of her MVs are just excellent regardless of the song. Ugly Beauty is a must. Some of my favorites are slightly less popular though: Karma, Romance, Hubby (this MV is the cutest thing). Her newest MV, Sweet Guilty Pleasure, is visually and lyrically one of the weirdest fucking things I've seen in music. Maybe check it out in your own time if you want to experience... that. Be well!

Jolin is one of the most iconic artists in Taiwan and Asia in general, she's been in the industry since she was 18 I believe, and i think she's a great role model. she's a HUGE supporter of the LGBTQ community and has written some songs about that and i'm glad you were reminded of Lady Gaga since she's a gay icon in Asia as well! her MVs usually are filled with storylines and she's actually vocally talented and a good performer too. you should react to her "Ugly Beauty" music video! and Lisa performed a Jolin song on Youth with You

OMG I never expected to see Jolin Tsai but I'm here for it. She's a QUEEN. This girl has been active in the industry since 1999 and is still killing it to this day. At this point, she doesn't have a style anymore because she's done it all. Jolin is a work of ART all her music and MVs, especially the ones from more recent years, are so beautiful to watch and many have layers of deep meaning to them. I'm sorry I'm not great at putting to words how amazing she is.

Jolin Tsai is one of if not the queen of C-Pop, and she's been in the industry since 1999. She's been through many different genres and styles over the years and didn't start dancing or incorporating dance into her music until 2006. Lady In Red and Play are not especially indicative of her style/genre because Jolin Tsai doesn't HAVE a signature style/genre. She's almost always going outside the box and trying new things. She touches on a lot of hard to talk about topics, like body image, depression, LGBT rights, feminism, etc. in both her music and her music videos. If you're interested in checking out anymore of her music, I'm going to recommend two other songs off her Ugly Beauty album (the same album Lady In Red is from), which are the song Ugly Beauty and the song Womxnly. Ugly Beauty's mv talks a lot about body image issues and the pressure to be perfect and beautiful that society puts on others, esp those in the entertainment industry, and things that Jolin Tsai personally dealt with (the mv actually "pokes fun" directly at things Jolin was ridiculed for online, such as she wasn't "skinny enough" or, when she first started incorporating dance in her work, people would make "gifs" of her in awkward poses and say she wasn't good at dancing). Womxnly's MV is a dance mv, so no story with the mv itself, but the song itself is specifically written for and about a 15 year old named Yeh Yung-chih who was relentlessly bullied and found murdered in his school's bathroom for being "effeminate". You don't have to do this to get the message of the song, but Jolin Tsai actually has a short documentary video about this where Yeh Yung-chih's mother speaks about the incident that is absolutely heartbreaking, and I highly recommend watching either that, or searching about the incident online to read about it beforehand for a little bit of context.

Wow, I've never heard of Jolin Tsai, but that first MV was really something... It definitely isn't my preferred style of music, but I can appreciate the level of artistry that clearly went into creating the song and video. And I would really like to some more dark, horror concepts within kpop too. Something else like Girls by Nature or (G)I-DLE's Put It Straight performance would be awesome

Chinese pop (from mainland China and Taiwan) in general is way less restrictive and much more creative than Kpop, both songs/lyrics and MV wise (lots of songs supporting LGBTQ+, on social issues, feminism etc. etc.) you should check out more Cpop videos, Dust My Shoulders Off (Red Dot Design Award winner), Pull Me Up, Body First (world's first "invisible" MV), Work For It (remix version featured Migos, but the original lyric video is great too) by Jane Zhang are all great songs+videos, Jane Zhang's the queen of China, check out her stuff if you have time. Another reason Cpop videos are so well produced is cause they have way bigger budgets, Lay had a Cpop MV that cost 1.4 million USD to make, Cpop artists make a lot more so they can afford this kind of stuff.

Im probably way too late here, but I gotta say this is a great reaction. Yeah, so basically at the end of lady in red, Jolin told the other girl to wear her wedding dress and then killed her with that machete, which is why you saw a headless body at the beginning of the scene. Then Jolin framed his fiance by placing that machete in his hand, which got him beheaded as people thought he killed his own fiancee. A very dark example of killing two birds with one stone. Also, is the background music Butterfly by Loona?
