I like how the family dynamics is so natural. Dads messing with their kids really mean that they have a good relationship.

Jordan don't let Dad talk you out of taking bites of your food, he eats faster and takes bigger bites so he is eating a lot more than you, but then he also tricks you out of more bites of your food. Tell Dad you're growing so you want to eat all of your own food Thank You ❤❤🙏🙏

Is messing with children harmful??? I think so. Internet says: Harmless Playfulness: If the intent is playful and lighthearted, and the child ultimately finds it funny or enjoys the joke, this might strengthen the bond. For example, teasing that leads to laughter or a shared moment of fun can be positive. Manipulation or Harm: If the child feels betrayed, angry, or humiliated, even unintentionally, it may harm trust. A parent might dismiss it as "just teasing," but to a child, it can feel like a breach of safety. More: The kind of deception described, where a parent "teases" their child by lying and then reveals it was a joke, can be a complex issue. Whether this is "okay" depends on a few key factors: The Intent and Context: Harmless Playfulness: If the intent is playful and lighthearted, and the child ultimately finds it funny or enjoys the joke, this might strengthen the bond. Impact on the Child: Short-Term Reaction: In your example, the child became very angry. This indicates the teasing crossed a line for him emotionally. Children depend on their caregivers for trust and security. Lying, even as a joke, can feel like a betrayal. Long-Term Patterns: Repeated "teasing" that involves deception can erode trust over time, making the child question whether they can believe their parent in other situations. Emotional Awareness: Parent’s Role: It’s important for parents to recognize their child’s reaction and validate their feelings. Saying something like, "I was just joking, but I see that upset you-I'm sorry," helps repair trust. Child’s Understanding: If the child is old enough to understand the concept of teasing and enjoys it as a playful interaction, it’s less likely to cause harm. Guidelines for Healthy Teasing: 1. Gauge the Child’s Personality: Some children love jokes and playful teasing, while others are more sensitive to feeling tricked or mocked. 2. Avoid Deception About Important Matters: Teasing about something trivial is less harmful than misleading about something meaningful to the child. 3. Be Quick to Repair: If the child reacts negatively, immediately apologize and clarify that it wasn’t meant to upset them. 4. Build a Context for Humor: Create an environment where teasing is understood as playful and mutual, not one-sided or confusing. In your example, the father might not have realized how strongly the child would react, but the child's anger suggests it wasn’t a positive experience for him. It’s a moment where the father could reflect on how to maintain trust while still having fun. Playful teasing should never leave the child feeling dismissed, disrespected, or hurt.

The one thing I learned about having kids is that you don’t need to read up on a lot of child psychology books to raise them. You went all out with your research 😅😅😅
