My dear Dad has just passed away. I am sorting out the funeral service, and I just have to include this. He was 92, God bless him, and we would sing this together. He loved it !!

My Grandad would sing this after he had walked me home from school every week. He passed just last night. Thank you for bringing back good memories.

Reminds me of car trips with my dad, mum, aunty and 6 children. We always sang this when we arrived home.

Glad to bring back a happy memory for you! Leslie Sarony stayed at the hotel where my mother worked. I was able to meet him at the stage door of Hull's New Theatre whilst he was appearing in a pantomime there. This was back in the mid 1960's. We had a nice chat about music hall & he gave me a signed photo.

Sorry, not heard one, but wouldn't put it past Leslie Sarony to write lyrics like that!

I grew up knowing Alma cogans version but this one's good too

Leslie Sarony belongs to much earlier times, but continued to appear on stage well into old age. I was lucky to meet him back in 1967, when he kindly gave me a signed photo. I remember Alma Cogan from my childhood too.

@@tiga4180 my childhood was in the 2000s, alma was on every Christmas CD I had growing up as well as many other singers from the same era Now I have most of those recordings on 45s. & 78s. Thanks for sharing

@@LifeOfJimbo So good that you are collecting 45's & 78's, its always great to know of newcomers to this hobby, who will preserve these vintage recordings. May I recommend this channel: kzbin.info He does your kind of stuff & older recordings too. My friend Paul Reeve of also posts some great 1950's recordings on KZbin, often played on vintage equipment.

+August Wickman Glad you enjoyed. I had the pleasure of meeting the singer of this song in 1967. He was in a pantomime at a theatre in Hull. We had a good talk about old songs & he gave me a signed photograph. The gramophone is an Electrola 101. Its larger sized soundbox gives it a great sound, especially on early electrical recordings.
