I don't think so. I worked it out by: "if Theresa's daughter is my daughter's mother, who am i to theresa" so, the part, my daughters mother, that is basically you right. So if you have a daughter (presuming your a girl) then that daughters mother is you so it basically says, if Theresa's daughter is me. So i am Theresa's daughter. Not son in law, son in law would work if it didn't say daughter

I reckon the original question has multiple choices _(which they didn't display on the screen),_ and the only choice available other than one you mentioned _(which is also correct)_ is *Teresa's Daughter* (or I am Teresa).

Hello fellow Jolly Beans, In case you're still stumped on the Theresa's daughter riddle, the original question was multiple choice. The answers were generally all female members of the family (Theresa herself, grandmother, daughter, etc.). The phrase "my daughter's mother" could only apply to "me" (since we're only dealing with female members of the family), so that is why Theresa's daughter is "me", hence the answer is "Theresa's daughter".

If Sara is unmarried, and John is looking at her, again, a married person is looking at an unmarried person. To those arguing about the first question, it's originally a multiple-choice question, with all answers being female. Son-in-law is the logical answer and would be correct, but Josh and Ollie didn't state that it's a multiple choice between being a grandmother, mother, daughter, granddaughter or that you're Teresa. Without being limited to those options, it should only stump you once you read the answer, and that's out of confusion, not because it's a difficult question.

"My daughter's mother" clearly means either me or my spouse (in traditionally structured families at least). I am not my daughter, and in no way, shape or form am I implying I am my own daughter. What I am implying is that I have a daughter, and she was obviously born from her mother, who I am referring to when saying "my daughter's mother". EDIT: also, "daughter's-mother" doesn't exist, but if it did it would probably refer to a specific type of mother that has a daughter, as in at least one female person refers to her as mother. By compounding names like that you are removing "my" from "daughter" before combining it with mother. Also, "my mother's daughter" is different still, as it might refer either to me or to my sister, but never to my spouse.

(Actually, I think the picture is misleading, because it makes you assume that they're wearing the colours they have on that picture, which doesn't necessarily have to be the case.) The simplest way to think of it is this: You were right about one thing: the man number 1 has the most information. If he saw that men 2 and 3 have the same colour of their hats (e.b. both white, or both black), then this colour is automatically out, and he would know for sure that his own hat must have been the opposite colour. (E.g. if men 2 and 3 wore white hats, his own hat must have been black, and vice versa.) But if men 2 and 3 have different colours, the man number 1 is clueless, and won't risk to say anything. But his silence is an information to the man number 2 that his hat is different than man number 3's hat, which he can see. So he can just take the opposite of whatever he sees, with 100% certainty. 08:20 Well, there's another type of riddles that I really like - the type of riddles Pierre de Fermat was sending to his fellow mathematicians. Because, on one hand, those riddles always communicated that he knows something new that they don't know yet, but on the other hand, they were designed in such a way that if they cracked their head a little bit on those riddles, they would learn the secret themselves as well. It's like a clever way of sharing your knowledge with others, but in such a way that they only get it when they deserve it, by making enough of effort to get there. A type of riddles that can make your brain run faster, but only when you deserve that type of knowledge and can appreciate it ;)

I still don’t get it. If 2 and 3 are wearing the same colour hat, then 1 will be the first to shout out because he knows his must be the other colour. 2 being the first to shout is predicated on 1 _not_ shouting out, which is only going to be the case if 2 and 3 are wearing different colour hats - if that premise is not fulfilled, then 2 is _not_ going to be the first to shout one, 1 is. Unless we know for certain that the four men are actually wearing the hats as shown in the image, the answer can be either 1 or 2, and since the men themselves (according to the information in the riddle) don’t know any such thing, there can be no definitive answer.

@@kokoshneta Thats why that riddle is always presented with the picture, it's never presented without it, obviously if 2 and 3 have the same color hat then number 1 will shout, but that would make the riddle super easy, if the riddle is presented without the picture, and someone answers that number 1 will shout because 2 and 3 have the same color, then you can follow up with "what if 2 and 3 have different color hats", the riddle is about understanding how to think through process of elimination. Once you look at the picture and no one instantly shouts they have a hat of X color, you start looking at the situation to understand who can figure out their hat color, number 1 doesnt have enough information to figure out his color because he cant see number 4, number 3 and 4 cant see anything so they have no information at all, which leaves you with number 2, who knows that number 1 doesnt know his own color which means 2 and 3 have diff color hats, and because 2 can see that 3 has "color A" hat it means he has "color B" hat. Its a great riddle when presented properly,

For the second one, in any case, the answer will be yes. If Sarah is married to John, then Sarah married is looking at Paul unmarried. If she is unmarried, then John married is looking at Sarah unmarried.

For instance, If Teresa's daughter was named Kristen and Kristen and I had a daughter named Jennifer Teresa | | Kristen Me | | | | -------------------- | | Jennifer We know that Teresa's Daughter is Kristen We know that Jennifer is MY daughter We know that Kristen is MY daughter's mother So Teresa to ME could be my mother in law OR it could be referring to Kristen

if Teresa's daughter is my daughter's mother then that means I had to had sex with Teresa's daughter to have my daughter. therefore I am married to Teresa's daughter and that makes me Teresa's son in law. if I was Teresa's daughter that means my sister (Teresa's daughter) and I adopted another child or got married and she somehow gave birth to a daughter. my question is why would I marry my sister? The question doesn't state if there are more than one daughter so if there is only one then yes you would be Teresa's daughter.

Well, you wouldn't technically have to be married to Teresa's daughter in order to produce a child with her, so your relationship with Teresa may not even be the son in law. However, you don't need to have had sex with Teresa's daughter to have produced her daughter. You could _be_ Teresa's daughter. Follow the logic: I am Teresa's daughter. I am my daughter's mother. Therefore Teresa's daughter is my daughter's mother. When you think of it in terms of a simultaneous equation you can replace any given term in one equation with its value from the other. In this case we're replacing the "I" with its value (Teresa's daughter). In grammatical terms you wouldn't do this of course.

For the last one: If 2 and 3 are wearing the same colored hat, 1 shouts out the other color. This tells 2 and 3 exactly what color hat they're wearing. 4 then knows what his hat color is. If 2 and 3 are weating different hats, 2 waits until 1 doesn't shout out his color and then he shouts out his own color. 3 knows 2s hat is the opposite color of his own. 1 and 4 would have no idea what color hat they're wearing, but all the question asks is who shouts first. In the specific example in the video, 2 would shout first.

In the last question, no matter what colour of hats they're wearing it makes sense. If 2 and 3 wear the hats in the same color, 1 can shout out the colour of his own hat because the only one choice is acceptable that 1 is wearing the opposite color of the hats 2 & 3 are wearing. But if 2 and 3 wears different colour of hats, 1 has to be hesitated to say it. So if 1 hesitates, 2 can realize that 1 cannot make sure the colour as 2 & 3 are wearing the different hats

Nyctohylophiliac but “son-in-law” is a guess made on the assumption that both of Theresa’s granddaughters biological parents are married to each other. “Son-in-law” might be correct, but “the man that got Teresa’s daughter pregnant or Teresa’s daughter” is all we can be sure of from the information given! Personally I didn’t like the car question, it involved compromising safety as the solution while the other 3 were all just logic problems

I think we can argue that either the question has a logical deformity to it or it is just meant to be perceived as an isolated riddle rather than a riddle contained in an universal set. Furthermore since your alternate answer or mine doesn't exactly define a relationship rather acquaintance I think they provide less importance as an answer.

Lol! "I'm cleverer than you idiot!" This totally made me remember this. When I was in school, I would often tell my classmate bullies, "You'll never get into any colleges anyway." It wasn't till near the end of my highschool that I realized how stupid I sounded since not everyone will choose that path anyway. I was thinking more on probability. The 2nd man would answer first because seeing a man with a black hat in front of him means that there are to 2 white hats and 1 black hat left. He would then think that he would most likely have a white hat. The 3rd guy would think there were 2 more black hats and 1 white left so he would most likely believe he had a black hat. With the 3rd guy saying he had a black hat and the 2nd guy had a white hat, the other two have a 50/50 chance😂

The last one was easy. The conclusion lead me to number 2 because: Everyone in 4 of them knows that there are 2 white hats and 2 black hats. Number 1 sees 1 white (Number 2) and 1 black (Number 3) so he don't know if he's wearing a black or white. Number 2 doesn't hear the number 1 saying anything so he must assume that he(Number 2) and Number 3 had the different hats, and because of that Number 3 has the black ones so he assume his hat is white. EDIT : 1 white and 1 black is hat color.... not racism

For the first riddle, The "son in law" could be a possible interpretation but is less correct. From the info the riddle gives you, though there is proof that theresa has a daughter who also has a daughter, there is no proof about theresa's daughter being married. Just because you have a daughter doesnt always necessarily mean you have a husband. You only know that there are three generations of daughters. Therefore if you were the granddaughters blood related father, you could be a stranger to theresa's mother just as likely as you could be her son in law. In this deduction the answer that you are theresas daughter (instead of her husband) is more consistant to the situation in all possible interpretations

For the hat problem, we can even take this one step further. As man 2 calls out his hat first, man 3 can know that the reason man 2 called out first was that man 1 had seen different color hats on 3 and 4 and so could not know his own hat. Thus as soon as man 2 calls out that he has a white hat, man 3 can call out that he has a black hat. Unfortunately, man 1 and 4 are unable to call out what hat they have on as it's possible still that their hats are swapped from what this image shows. Now, on the other hand, had man 2 and man 3 had the same color hat, then man 1 could call out the other color and instantly everyone else could then call out their color. There is though one problem with the puzzle as it is shown. Man 2 can ONLY call out his hat when he has concluded that Man 1 is unable to call out his hat color. Because of this, he needs to give some amount of time to Man 1 to work it out. But because he can not communicate with Man 1 at all, it is entirely possible that it's just taking Man 1 a really long time to reach an obvious solution. Thus Man 2 can never be SURE that Man 1 isn't just about to call out an answer, and thus he can not call out his own answer.

About the John, Sarah and Paul example: Because Sarah is being watched by a Married person AND watching a married person, it doesn't matter whether she is or isn't married. If she is married, then the married person is her and the unmarried person she's watching is Paul. If she isn't married, then the married person is John and the unmarried person.he is watching is her. In both cases a married person is watching an unmarried person.

With the hats, it occurred to me that any individual would be able to see their hat with their eyes right away. If you were wearing the same style hat that they are wearing in that illustration with the front brim of the Hat coming out roughly 45 degrees as it appears in the illustration, you would be able to see the hat instantly unless your vision differs from the average humans. *The angle seems to be 45° beginning from the tip of the nose, but the angle is more acute from the eyes. This would be even easier to see. I feel like someone might say the brim of the hat is black, and if that is the case all of the hats are black, but only two of the hats also contain white, making black a 100% success chance and white a 50-50 guess. It might not be 50/50 because that adds another variable to the equation. Let's say man one can see Man 2 and 3, but he can also now see that man two has a black brimmed hat with a white top. Man one suddenly has much more to take into consideration then in the initial scenario that didn't consider the brim of the hat at all.
