Hi, when getting a Mettbrötchen you get basically minced meat. In Germany you need to serve minced meat freshly by law. Means it needs to be kept at a specific temperature and not older than a few hours. After that you need to either to cook it or throw it away. That law is called Hackfleisch Verordnung. And if you fail to to follow that rule set the ministry of health will shut down your business.
@Sasha12345757 жыл бұрын
Right. But real Mettbrötchen has to be prepared 1 hour before. The "Mettbrötchen" needs 1 hour on air, where the chemical process of fermentation on air happend.

@Anglo For non-Europeans it is weird. I don't understand why they are weirdet out by this, but they are, it's probably cultural or something
@RealWolfHraban4 жыл бұрын
@Anglo not really, it is raw meat. for most people outside of Europe raw meat is seen as unhygienic anyway. And the youtubers kept repeating it again and again because it is weird for themselves. And I did some research on the topic as well, even in the vast majority of Europe it's seen as weird, the only nations that I found to have actually similar preparations is Belgium and Denmark, but theirs is made of Beef. The also are similar dishes in Armenia, Turkey, Kurdistan, America, Lebanon and Chile. But non were made out of pork. So I have come to the conclusion that foreigners usually don't have an issue with the fact that it's raw meat, but rather with the fact that it's raw pork which in most places, is seen as unsafe for consumption.
@kilsestoffel36904 жыл бұрын
@kilsestoffel36904 жыл бұрын

Okay, Disclaimer in Germany its perfectly safe to eat raw pork and you'll find that every butcher in germany offers "Mett" (seasoned raw ground pork) sometimes even in different varities. Its one of the staples of german cuisine. Also i try really hard not to be insulted that you guys would assume that something thats on the menu in a restaurant isn't safe to eat. i mean come on do you really think the restaurant would deliberatly try to poison you or that the government doesn't enforces food regulations? Yes i can understand reluctance considering that other countries have far less restrictive food regulations and raw pork can be a real danger there but refusing to finish the dish because of fear, and not because it tastes bad or whatever, shows distrust in the ability of germany to keep people save and that is scratching on my german pride. Sorry for the rant i shut up now xD

Dude, people are skeptical of menus all over the world. It doesn't matter what logic says; sometimes instinct tells us to stay away from a dish that seems dangerous at first. Don't go thinking this is a personal offence against Germany. Calm, mein freund. :)

Better safe than sorry. It's common knowledge not to drink tap water in other countries because you will most likely get sick. While I understand your point of view, criticising someone else for being apprehensive of something they've been taught never to eat while growing up is also a bit weird, no?
@TheImaginaererfreund6 жыл бұрын
Sorry Buddy, the "don't drink tapwater" rule is for Third World Countries. Last time I checked I'm living in a developed nation. As the original comment said German regulations on food standarts are among of the highest in international comparison.

@Ulkomaalainen7 жыл бұрын
You're gonna kill me probably, but the same glass is used for Alt. To non German viewers: simplyfying a bit, there's four major kinds of German beer, depending on region, which are the most popular and the ones you'll get when just ordering "beer". (There's other great beer types as well, but they're always more a kind of a specialty than "the beer" you'll get if you just ordered "a beer please".) These are Pils/Pilsener, Weißbier/Weizenbier, Alt and Kölsch. Weizen is popular in the south, Pils in the North, Alt in the Düsseldorf area (in the west) and Kölsch in the Cologne area ("Kölsch" meaning "of Köln (Cologne)") in the west, too). And while the rest of Germany is enjoying their beer, agreeing that the other variety is good, too (as in "I prefer Pils, but on a hot summer day nothing beats a Weizen"), Kölsch and Alt are somewhat frowned upon outside their region. Though not as much as they themselves dislike each other - it is not helping that Köln and Düsseldorf do have quite some rivalry going on. So for many Germans the reaction to this video may be akin to "you worry about Mettbrötchen giving you food poisoning while drinking KÖLSCH?" While people of Düsseldorf are certain you'll die.

As a german I am surprised how good Josh pronounces it.. Did you have german in school? Otherwise I can't explain how good you read this one menu out loud.. Either this or you cheated and practice before filming..

I think they had German in school. They knew too many words for just having them picked up at Gamescon or learned for this video

This is so funny to watch because mettwurst is such a normal thing here to eat in germany 😂 i mean, i don't like it but i never thought its weird that my mom or others are eating raw meat hahah

Kevin Alvarez its because the mett gets eaten withing hours after it was produced (when bought from a butcher... the one from the supermarket is sealed airtight in plastic, maybe with some protective gases or whatnot, i habe no clue about that), also its obviously stored at cool temperatures... and when it comes to restaurants / others offering Mettbrötchen thats ofc regulated (i mean... its Germany after all xD) to avoid such complications :)

I'm from Austria but our food culture is pretty similar to germany's. The mashed potatoes and sauerkraut made me hungry af lmao
