@sassygamers10 ай бұрын
I keep a spoon on hand for a reason! Also, the day I first bit into an oreo manufactured at a different plant and realized their recipe is different depending on where it was made, I almost cried. The difference affects how the cookie melts. Imagine an oreo that just refuses to break down like a block of cement with a semi-fake chocolate flavor. I was so angry, I was ready to write a letter until I google'd and found out I could still get the original recipe if I shopped at certain stores.

I think that's why ,in the USA in particular..we tend to specifically categorize between breads,rolls,biscuits(puffy breads) ,then crackers - made mostly of a flour base(but may have flavorings that are not in themselves with a sweetness) and then from "cookies"- which usually have sweetness,flooring ,icing or chocolate coverings or fillings .There are always exceptions,however,such as vanilla wafers and graham crackers for example.I think that's what confuses most Brits and Americans basically about each other's terminologies....our eating traditions and descriptives.
@221b-Maker-Street Жыл бұрын
We reserve the word cracker purely for _savoury_ biscuits. People will often have a snack of eg 'cheese and crackers' part way through the evening if they've dined early, or if eating out, people may choose 'cheese and biscuits' instead of a pudding at the end of their meal. A biscuit here is any sweet baked, crisp or crunchy item, baked from a dough. Cookies however are soft - you can _bend_ them. You cannot bend British biscuits, they'd snap in two!
@madeinbusanjkjm3 жыл бұрын
I think Jaffa Cakes are not biscuits because biscuits need to be hard and snappy when you bite into them but Jaffa Cakes's "biscuit layer" is kind of like a sponge cake consistency.

Biscuits turn soft when they go stale, cakes turn hard. So, jaffa cakes are cakes.

But what about crabcakes?
@dglthrawn13 жыл бұрын
Yep. I think the manufacturers went to court to decide it. The result was that they are cakes.
@caroleberreur95853 жыл бұрын
oh, an opened biscuit packet that has turned soft is an abomination to eat, especially if you were looking forward to your newly found snack.

Even tho I'm not British, tea and biscuits is a thing here, and sir, especially in winter, it slaps😌, as long as 1) it doesn't fall in 2) you don't soak it too long

The best biscuits/cookies to dip in tea are gingersnaps. Perfect combo. We have the fig biscuits in the US. Fig Newtons are a classic. The cookie with the marshmallow and chocolate is also a classic -- Mallowmars. Regional names for this cookie are whippets, krembos and pinwheels.

Rich tea has to be my favourite followed by plain digestive. Dunking biscuits into the tea should be the only way to eat them 😊.

This will be one of my favorite episodes ever! Faves here: chocolate digestives in first place & jaffa cakes second place. Lol the etrnal question, are you off of cakes more of a biscuit or cake! 😁

I can confirm that, as an American who's never been to Britain but has bought A LOT of biscuits at World Market, Tea Cakes are the best ones 🤤😋

hah, I know the "lotus" , bicoffs or speculoos ones. They are the most common you get in Luxembougish restaurants , cafés etc. when ordering a tea, coffee or hot chocolate. But Lotus is a belgian company, so I'm not surprised we have them here so much, but genuinely so that they are in Britain. And 6:00 3 years old here too I guess, Iike to dip allkind of sweet bicuits (or muesli bars) in yoghurt :) And I want a teakace now. We have them too, called "mellow cakes", but I LOVE them

As a indian i can confirm that not letting the biscuit fall into your tea is a real skill

I actually like dipping rich tea biscuits in my tea! The trick is you've got to dip them really quickly them immediately shove the whole thing in your mouth before it gets a chance to become soggy and mushy. This way the inside is still nice and crunchy with a thin layer of wet slightly softer biscuit on the outside. Which, now that I'm typing it out, actually sounds revolting. But I really enjoy it. And bonus: because they are so bland you can eat like 50 of them without getting sick of it!

When that biscuit dropped into the tea, my very British heart might have broken.

One of my fondest memories of my year in England is drinking tea and eating biscuits in the afternoon. It's a custom I took with me going back to Brazil and still do it living now in Germany. My favourite ones are the hobnobs (which a brand in Germany called Hobbits - so double fun eating them) closed followed to shortbreads. Jaffa cakes are great, too! My kids hate them. So more for me! :-D
